Hi there,
I have for sale my Mk1 Golf Cabriolet which has just had a ticket put on it. I'm a bit of a soft touch when it comes to dubs and whilst it's been a tough decision, I have a Corrado Storm that is currently sat rotting on the drive at the moment so I'm trying to raise some funds for her (that's not to say that I couldn't be tempted with a swap though, I'm generally a sucker for any kind of deal)
I've owned this little baby for around 6 months and if I'm honest, not really done much with it in that time. My first outing in her wasn't very successful as the bottom radiator hose decided to burst on me. Having replaced that, I also found a leaking radiator so replaced that too. By the time I'd gotten around to actually doing these jobs, the MOT had run out so it's taken me up until today to give her a proper test drive again. Having done about 20 miles in her today, I'm 99% confident that she'll be a bit more reliable now.
I don't really know the history of this car other than it's had 10 owners, has at some point had the petrol engine replaced with a 1.6d (sacrilege I know but the cheap running is a plus) though in all honesty, if I were to keep her, I'd been tempted with a large petty engine. It was off the road for 9 years during the time of 21/10/2005 - 28/01/2014 though I couldn't tell you why. This is information I have gleaned from the MOT Cert. It only did 105 miles last year and has barely done any this year.
Good points:
It's solid underneath and the bodywork is generally in good condition. The engine seems solid and the gearbox is also in good working order. Nearly all electrics work (aside from the heater, though I don't think this will be a big issue to fix) and obviously it has 12mths MOT so can be driven away. The roof doesn't leak though could probably benefit from a new canvas at some point. There are small holes appearing and some have been fixed with liquid resin.
Interior is generally pretty good for age though the front seats have quite a bit of wear (though no tears)
Bad points:
The sills could do with some attention and the rear arches have seen better days. If they're not a little rotten, they're starting to bubble in places but I guess this can be expected from a car that is 34 years old.
The heater doesn't seem to work though warm / cold air does come through and it seems enough to make sure the windows don't mist up. The wiring looms are so rudimentary that I can't see it being more than an hours work for a decent auto electrician.
The body work has the odd few dents / paint work missing though I would say that 90% of the body work is decent.
All in all it's an extremely fun car to drive and would be ideal for this fantastic summer we seem to be having (hope you don't pick up on my sarcasm)
Please give me a shout with any questions. I've tried to be as honest as possible but remember that this car is 34 years old and whilst it's not in a bad shape, it's certainly not perfect.
Car is located in Macclesfield, Cheshire. I could potentially meet somewhere after a deposit.
Cheers
