Hello everyone, this advert is for my 1989 BMW E30 325i Touring.
Quick overview - MOT until July 2016, 113,600 miles, lots of new bits/work done on it in the past 12 months, paintwork and interior are showing their age a bit.
More detail you say? Alrighty then... it's not exactly a concourse example, but I think she still shines up okay for a 26 year old motor and makes for a perfect and reliable retro daily driver. It only has 113,600 miles on it and it's got MOT till July 2016 (got it done at the weekend). I'll do this backwards and start by saying the main bad points; the paintwork is pretty knackered (scratches/little dents/mismatched paint), the interior is past its best (leather seats cracked, dash cracked), and it doesn't have much history with it. It also leaks a bit of oil and there are a few minor blebs of rust here and there, but really nothing to worry about; overall it is very solid. On the flip side, I did do loads of work on it last summer whilst I was off uni, including spending 6 weeks welding up all the holes I poked in it - as for the other stuff I did to it and just general info, I'll break it down in to sections:
Suspension/steering: new Eibach springs (40/30 drop), new Bilstein B4 dampers, new front droplinks (rear Mondeo upgrade), new top mount/lower arm/lollipop bush/front wheel bearing on drivers side, new rear top mounts, E46 "purple tag" steering rack conversion, new track rod ends, new handbrake shoes/springs.
Engine/driveline: new radiator, new water pump, new cambelt/headgasket (done by previous owner not long before I bought it), new viscous fan coupling, new engine mounts, I had the injectors sent away and professionally refurbed, new clutch master + slave, new battery, "Mild" chipped ECU (pulled 160bhp on dyno), and I've been changing the oil every 3000 miles. I also changed the gearbox and diff. oil last September. The gear linkage components are a bit worn, so the gear stick is a bit more 'wibbly' than it should be.
Interior: reupholstered the headlining in bright red fake seude, I bought and fitted a grey leather sports interior, it's got new speakers all round, a compact sub-woofer hidden in a rear bin, it's got a decent Philips DAB radio that you can plug your iPod in to, new floor mats, pop-out cup holders from an E39, factory fitted M-tech 1 steering wheel, factory 13 button 'On Board Computer' (but the screen is very melted). The fan only works on the highest setting (resistor gone, I took it out and never bothered getting a new one).
Most of that was done in summer 2014, with a few bits through the winter as it was my daily driver for 10 months or so (never let me down in that time), and I put about 6/7000 miles on it. It's got matching Toyo Proxes all round on 15" BBS wheels painted satin black with a brown metallic rim, still with plenty of tread left, and I also fitted a remote central locking kit and a buzzer to remind you to turn the headlights off. Oh and it's also a non-sunroof car, I still have the original BMW keys, and I might also throw in a spare set of 14" bottletops on mud+snow tyres if I get a high enough price.
If you're really interested then I recommend at least having a skim through the project thread for the car, here - retrorides.proboards.com/thread/159899/1989-325i-touring-clutch-hydraulics
Any questions/interest, feel free to PM me or ask here. If you're going to ring me then it'll have to be out of normal work hours, or just leave me a voicemail and I'll get back to you when I can.
Suppose I should put a few pictures here shouldn't I...
