any one have experience of this? i have just taken on a small 9x7ft workshop to do welding and muck around in doing metal work. i will have about a grands worth of kit in there, welder, grinders etc which i don't want stolen and should the worst happen would like it covered. can anyone recommend a company that does this sort of thing or any clauses which i may fall foul of without realising? thanks like

Similar thread from a while ago. You might want to try NFU who seem to deal with this type of thing albeit at a price. I'm assuming the workshop isn't part of your house/boundary or someones house, in which case if it not on a bona fide business estate/part of a genuine business you may struggle. I once had a unit on the Santa Pod airfield. Insurance was just impossible. retrorides.proboards.com/thread/178609/tool-insurance?page=1&scrollTo=2076528

You may be able to get theft insurance subject to the property being secured to the underwriters satisfaction but I doubt you will get fire or damage insurance if you are welding and don't have any recognised qualifications and spending a bit on fire precautions.

Considering that workshops are high risk you may find that the cost of insurance and the excess will make it not worthwhile bothering with, especially if you have to fit security doors/bars etc. £1k worth of tools isn't really a lot when you look at a normal workshop but appreciate that it's still £1k which is a lot of money if it gets stolen. Will be interested to see how much.
