Hi everyone, I'm selling my 2000 e38 BMW 728i...its mot'd until December 2015 and has 160000 miles. Its got service history up to 144000 miles and is finished in the best colour with a grey leather interior. Being a year 2000 car, it is the facelifted version of the e38. I've been using it since January, when I swapped it for my old mx5, although I'm having a clear out
Obviously, its got all the usual toys, such as dual zone climate control and air con (that's still cold), cruise control, switchable auto box, electric windows, seats, steering column, etc, etc.....it's also fitted with the Brembo front brakes, which are way better that the standard brakes on my other e38s! Being a 2000 model, it has the facelifted front end.
When it came to me, the suspension was shot.....my mechanic of choice changed the front Lower control arms and track rod ends, rear control arms, doglegs and lower bushes. It also had a set of used apex springs (stiffer, but stock height) and front Boge dampers. A new cam sensor was also fitted at the same time. It now drives as it should do....plenty of power, smooth gear changes, stops well with those brembos and goes round corners well. Most importantly, it doesn't have the 55mph shimmy as most of the suspension has been changed!
It looks the part as well, obviously there are a few scratches and dings and there is a little hole in the lower part of the rear bumper, but nothing to worry the connoisseur of good value luxury cars too much! Its still very presentable and has great presence!
Of course, its not all great news.....the main thing his the ABS lights are on....I don't know what it is as I havent had it scanned....could be a sensor or a controller, although I've seen used abs controllers as cheap as £20 on eBay, so fixing it won't break the bank! It also has an intermittent rear parking sensor fault....its usually fine, but sometimes the rear buzzer just comes on randomly, it can be turned off so it's not a massive problem...
Generally, its a great value wafty cruiser....I think its priced fairly well with the issues in mind, as e38 prices seem to be on the up slightly, so come have a look and bag yourself a great car! Test drives are welcome if you can prove you have insurance! At 500 quid its dirt cheap, no offers, no messing, turn up, give me cash and leave in the bargain of the year!
