HI All, ive been googling and apart from Wiki i cant find any solid info on these vans. Basically I'm looking to get rid of my trusty LWB T4 and replace it with a proper converted 90's Campervan after searching Ebay and mobile.de ive found a couple ideal candidate's ones a 1990 207D and the other a 1991 209D, so what can you tell me about them? how do they drive, parts availability, general mechanical issues ect this is one of the 2: thanks Dan

Not too sure about the smaller ones, my dad had a 407D and it was seriously slow and not very good on fuel, very wallowy, vague steering, phone in your braking request but very comfy seats and it actually NEVER broke running-gear wise and held a strange sort of charm. The bodywork constantly snapped, cracked and generally disintegrated, You also sometimes got electric shocks from the frame of the drivers seat as the battery lived under there and sometimes the battery or something else worked loose, touched the frame and got you.
It was pretty cack, but kept on running.

They're hard to kill and most of them live in Africa now. Beware rust but thats about all. They are very robust. I would say most of the ones left in the country will have been campers for a long time so have probably been better looked after than a working van.

We had one as a delivery van were I worked and as above it went on forever badly, Was slow flat brakes were curse word infact the only thing it did well was rust.
I'd avoid because they are strangely attractive and will punish you daily....
We tried to kill it and it just kept on living...

When I was but a callow youth, the firm I worked at had a fleet of these. As per others experiences, they were pretty slow, and have an interesting dog-leg 1st gearbox with about 2ft of throw between the gears. I can confirm though, that given a good thrashing round a damp industrial estate, they will slide in a most entertaining fashion.

cheers for the input chaps, think ill have to press on with the T4 for now, shame as size and looks wise they make fab campers but i need to be able to do 70 fully loaded to get to my destination in decent time

Bit late to the party, but I can play this game, I have one! Leaf springs all round but the ride nicely, no power steering, brakes are pretty good. Woefully underpowerd, ours has a turbo conversion and it is still pretty slow. They rust like mad, ours is on a pick-up chassis which is sound, but the cab is rotten. Pattern parts are available from Germany and Poland (and occasionally uk ebay) for the worst areas. Mechanically they go forever. This is ours...

I've seen loads (well five) of them over this weekend... Solstice today and Glastonbury next week, dogs on string etc. etc.
