So the other day i was talking to an artistic friend of mine who was telling me about people who draw on their cars with Sharpie pens. This to me sounded like a bizarre idea, due to the size of a car, and the size of the nib of a marker pen, plus whenever i've tried colouring in with marker pens it just never looks good. I manage to keep the colours inside the lines, but they always look patchy! Years ago i did try to draw flames on the bonnet of one of my pick ups with an orange Edding type marker, it looked ok, and i enjoyed the fumes, but the result didn't last long, and was pretty soon faded/washed away! Today, after thinking about drawing on cars with Sharpie pens a bit more i had a quick trawl on the net, and soon found many images... My question is, have any of you guys tried doing this? How succsessful was it? and how long did it last? I know that there's a lot of artist/graphics/illustrator type out there, so i'm guessing that a few of you guys might have had a go. If you have, post a few pics of how the finished product looked. Personally i wouldn't have the patience to do a who car to the level that the examples i've provided are at, but i have been thinking about perhaps doing the roof of my car with a very simple design. Anyways, show me what you've done!

If your blessed with my artistic skills , it's probably better to wrap your car with a design you like. I just don't have the patience ( and skills!!) I've blacked out a taillight with a markerpen on an harley Davidson electra glide and even that looked patchy.

Sharpies are terrible.
Krink, otr or (my personal preference) grog are the ones to go for. Grog do brilliant drippy dye-based mops with fluffy tips.

- unfortunatly.. Sharpie goes sort of Pink/cherry colored after prolonged sun exposure.
Clear Coating will prolong this but it would still happen..
Especially the 'colored in' sections would start to show all the infill.
I LOVE some of the freestyling design work though, must take AAAAAAAges.

I was once tempted to let a group of mates draw on the side of my old VW Camper with permanent markers back in the 90's but knew it would end up with something rude and inappropriate hidden amongst it all. It got rollered in blue dulux garage door paint instead.
Even I had the skill and patience required to do something like that I'd probably end up smudging it.

I so want to have a go at this, if only I had easy access to a white/light coloured car to do it with. Probably lucky I don't.
Suppose the best candidate would be a car you were planning on re-painting in the near future. The Camaro and the BMW look the best where it's not all over the car but used in stripes.
