Just a quick question, I'm going to fit a janspeed turbo set up to my pinto. I've got a td04 turbo to go on it, any ideas on what manner of restrictor I should put in the oil feed line? The oil return needs to go into the sump above the normal oil level is there an accepted method of doing this our if it just a case of what comes to hand? Any ideas on scrapyard donors for pipework our should I just get new? Thanks

I'm guessing a nice braided stainless hose would be best , once you know what fittings you will use - a fit a forget option . Why not just base it on cosworth parts - cheap and readily avaliable and sticking with the ford option .

As with any online purchase, 'buyer beware' is the order of the day. Do your research, pay by insured means, etc.
Either way, please keep it civil on here - accusations / threats are not tolerated, whatever the circumstances.

Your that bloke who ripped loads of people off on many different forums ? Not that I know of mate? Doubt there's many people who have the same username as me? He wasn't referring to yourself . On the cars I have seen with an oil return going back into the sump they tend to have a silione or high temp hose gone back into the engine. However, most engines seem to have the oil drain finishing below the oil level line. This can become a can of worms however ; some say that the crankcase. Hardcore, you have PM.

Oil feed and return for turbosowen

When I turbo'd my Rover P6 I tried a restrictor in the oil feed line as the engine runs about 50psi oil pressure. I think it may have contributed to finishing off the bearings in the old scrapyard turbo, and I ended up removing the restrictor and just using regular American size AN3 hose.
The main issues I was having was the oil return and crankcase breathing, once those were eventually sorted I didn't have any noticeable smoke out of the exhaust. The oil return must be as large as possible, and be as vertical and straight as you can get it to return the oil back the sump fast. Turbo's can flow a lot of oil through them, as a quick experiment when messing about with the oil return line I started my engine with it over an open bucket, I was suprised by how fast it was coming out!

My plan should I ever have an engine which was not fitted with a turbo as standard:
1/2" bulkhead fitting bolted to a horizontal part of the sump as high as possible, with a corresponding 1/2" hole drilled through the sump actual.
Then 1/2" hydraulic hose for the oil drain, jubliee'd or similar (its not under pressure).
You can but 1/2" hose to *insert your turbo here* fittings for less than a tenner.

Some turbos have a built in restrictor, if it hasn't then something like 1mm will do, I just use a 1mm pop rivet and never had an issue.
