Anyone after a hack?
I changed jobs and needed a "do everything" car without tying up a load of cash.
Did 10k in 5 months at 40mpg, so success but changed jobs again, got a company car so this is sat doing nothing now.
It's a facelift 1998 C250TD Classic Estate, 5 speed Auto with less than 110k miles on the clock. Classy no-cost options include red paint, and grey cloth interior, standard issue cosmetic rusty scabs (added wing ventilation holes on the front) but absolutely solid as a rock underneath. Dark-as-you-dare privacy class from the B post back, brand new Witter tow bar (never used) and MoT until January 2016
Bad points (bound to be some):
Air con doesn't seem to work but I prefer opening a window anyway so haven't investigated.
Standard issue in tank pump failure so don't run it less than 1/4 a tank (there is a helper pump fitted but doesn't do a great deal)
Funky diesel knock from idle up to 13-1400 rpm; have already fitted recon injectors so next call was going to be the pump seals because:
Slight weep of diesel from the top of the pump (injector pre-delivery valves) when cold - stops leaking when it gets warm. I've got the seals, just haven't got round to doing anything with it
Front sits a bit high but that's probably because I've replaced the front springs for the last MoT but not the rears.
Slightly dicky inhibitor switch on the gear-lever can be a bit of a pain when starting, but wiggle gear-lever and it still works fine. Again, hasn't really bothered me so I haven't looked deeper.
Feed it with fuel and drive!
