Hi,
Just after some ideas - I fancy an escort cosworth I have a 15k budget
Although I'm thinking, it's an old ford (not known for weathering) - parts prices, not sure it's for me, (I'm a japanese guy mainly) is there any other cars from the 90s that do everything the escort cossie does for similar money (or less would be great) that I can look for. Not too fussed on a 911 as I know nothing about them. Thanks in advance.

Nissan sunny gti-r would be a good bet as would an Evo or you could get an impreza p1

Audi Coupe Quattro ? Obviously not a Ur-Quattro as they would probably be out of your budget.

If you want an Escort Cosworth, I'd buy one of those. Values are only going one way so in 5 years time they might be out of reach.

Probably well out of reach already I'm afraid, they've been selling near original new price for nearly a decade for a clean standard one.

As much as I'd like an import the insurance factor concerns me with them and resale eventually.
With regards to the price I've been watching them for months, the 20-30k ones don't budge, people are are paying around 15 for average ones and 18-20 for minters. Thanks for the advise people think the cossie is the answer possibly an Evo

Lancia delta intergrale, no idea what sort of price range they fall in but that would be my choice for a 4 wheel drive turbo.

The first car that came into my head was a Subaru Legacy Turbo, I remember Autocar calling them the ultimate Q car at the time.

Here's a low mileage one I found for example of price pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&id=121643957634&alt=web Or ask keron for a rough idea on prices for engine, box. Resale should not be an issue on a 2jzgte single turbo with manual box throwing out over 400+ bhp m.facebook.com/pages/Extreme-Performance/163443147014776

Ford Sierra (Sapphire) Cosworth 4x4 is mechanical the same as a Escort bar a bigger turbo. The Alfa-Romeo 155 Q4 is a rare beast too and is based on the Lancia Delta Integrale. Nissan Skyline GT-R R32 is a lot of car for the money at the moment. An early BMW e36 M3 has the straight line performance, but being non turbo and rwd it might be something too different.

Having recently driven (back to back) a 3dr Sierra Cosworth, Sapphire Cosworth 4x4, Escort Cosworth, Mk1 Focus Rs and Mk2 Focus RS (all factory standard and all in tip top condition), I'd choose the 3dr Sierra or Mk1 Focus RS all day over the others. The 3dr Cosworth will be well out of your budget, so I'm going to recommend a Mk1 Focus RS. I'm sure there will be a raft of "OMG WRONG WHEEL DRIVE!!" haters along in a mo to put me back in my box, but 3dr and Mk1 Focus were the only ones that really felt alive and communicative, raw and characterful. The others, to be honest, were a bit of a disappointment. Even if some were quicker.... Looking at your budget, you could probably get an Escort Cosworth, but, for the money the Mk1 Focus RS is currently about the bottom of the price cycle and WILL start to gain value very soon...and very quickly too. £10k will buy you a really good, original, unmolested one that you can use, enjoy and also watch appreciate in value. They are fantastic out of the box without the need to modify them and if future values are anything to go by, original will always pay off with a sporty blue oval. That's a 30% saving over the Escort Cosworth and (personally speaking) a much more involving car to drive. The Escort actually felt a bit cumbersome. If it was down to looks, the 3dr Sierra and Escort Cosworth would probably win, but as a drivers car it's the Focus which actually had me looking at classifieds only a few nights ago. Factor in the almost certain value increase you'll enjoy and it's a not brainer to me. If I wasn't currently importing two new projects from abroad, I can assure you there would currently be a Mk1 Focus RS in my garage. I was never really much of a fan until I drove one. I was a massive fan after driving all the RS models from the Sierra onwards, it really stood out to me. Have some photos from the day. The Daddy! The Essex boy in a suit. Poster material for many. As a drivers car VS affordability, let alone future investment, this winds hands down. Fastest, meanest looking, but not necessarily the best. A little bit extra, something that was completely mind blowing. Agricultural would be an understatement, but don't believe them when they say never meet your heroes, this was a dream come true!! Blasting around the dual carriageways of Dagenham in an RS200 is something I'll never, ever forget.

Thanks very much for all the advice. I have contemplated sapphires but they're almost escort money and don't have a whale tail
Lots of ideas for me to look into and think about
The focus rs is an interesting one, never driven one, heard good things I looked at them a month ago or so I seem to remember there was about two on eBay or something...
Much appreciated

Dez, I know someone who recently sold their RS500 Sierra and bought an Aston Martin DB9.....and had quite a few grand change too. Who'd have thought it? This is the actual car:

i just had an idle look on ebay at what 15k will buy you.
sticking to peformance orientated stuff, so excluding all prestige and anything with more than two doors, theres half a dozen mustangs with or without roofs, a big block charger, a few jensen interceptors, various hot rods with over 500hp/ton, a few corvettes of differing ages, a few lotii of differing models, proper 911s, merc SL500s, bmw M635i, etc.
and that was only searching classi cars. i didnt venture into modern sportscar territory...
