	OK, its on a bike, but its a twin coil, 4 cylinder wasted spark set up. Basically I've got hold of a zzr1100 that's been sat for a couple of years. I've had it running but sometimes it will go straight off and run excellently, other times just cranks for ages. The fuel is good, the carbs are clean. If it won't start, if I remove one plug lead (any plug) and check for a spark with a spare spark plug, the engine usually fires straight into life, albeit on 3 cylinders. This has happened on a too many occasions for it to be a fluke. Its wrecking my head! All I can assume is that I'm either discharging a coil that wasn't before, or making a good earth by grounding a plug to check for spark. I'm going to go through the loom plugs and clean them, and also check the engine earth points, plus run an extra earth the coils just to make sure. Any other suggestions?

	My ZZR1100 (D1 model) always felt strong but very "wooly", we tried lots of stuff but eventually found : 1. DO THIS reset float levels to "factory spec" low level (mine was an older model, fuel level when I got it was within factory spec but at "high" level so it would fire with small choke, and then run fine with no choke). ie was running very rich at all times. it felt like a 25% power boost after setting the floats 2. balance the carbs. no big effect on mid/top end power but it helps pickup and smooth tickover Late thought : check fuel tap is ok, thing these are vac-operated? (is it flooding the carbs when parked?), check you're not leaving it parked with tap in "prime". Try parking it on center-stand if you normally use a side-stand (just to stop tilted carbs from flooding) Fit new plugs if not already done (this fixed some odd problems on a CBR1000 I had, even tho' old plugs tested fine on the bench) Stick with it, they are always fun but lots better when running sweet!
