For sale here is my MGB GT, I have owned it since 2011 and have just not had time to give her the attention she deserves so decided to let her go to someone that has.
The car is being sold as a restoration project.
The car has been off the road since 1996 and kept in dry storage since (was a Barn find).
The car has lots of receipts for work done.
Showing 23,142 miles, I suspect that a replacement odometer has been fitted at some point and only seem to have half a dozen MOT certificates so cannot confirm the actual mileage.
The car was laid up due to a failed MOT on corrosion on the boot floor area and the previous owner never got around to getting this sorted.
The car starts, runs, drives and stops although not taken for a proper run due to lack of MOT and a leaky water pump.
Condition:-
Bodywork
Generally the car is fairly solid, I think this is mainly owing to the fact that it had full “Waxtec” treatment all over in 1989 (as can be seen in most of the photos).
The front wings have been replaced at some point as they are very good.
The paintwork is pretty dull and has reacted in a few areas.
The main areas of corrosion are the rear arches. (I would suggest that the rear arches, sills and lower rear quarter panels all require replacing) This is actually a fairly straightforward job for anyone handy with a grinder and MIG welder.
There will be other areas that require attention such as the two areas that it failed on in the boot floor but I have had a look underneath and the rest looks pretty good.
Mechanicals
The engine is a good runner, with strong oil pressure and sounds like a “B series” should.
The clutch engages and disengages, allowing selection of all forward and reverse gears.
Foot brake and handbrake work (although as you would expect they are not the sharpest).
Interior
Interior is fairly original, although the front seat covers are damaged and the headrests are missing so require replacing.
Summary:-
In my opinion this is the best year MGB to get!
You get the tax exemption, chrome bumpers, and the later “mod cons” such as tinted glass and Honeycomb grille.
The car is an “as found” restoration project that requires work to get an MOT but it will be a rewarding and valuable car to own when completed. It is a very good basis as a restoration project as it is complete (apart from headrests), unmolested and you know its got nothing to hide in its running condition.
The car will need towing away, it can be driven onto a trailer / low loader.
