Overview
For sale we have a lovely little Eunos Roadster/MK1 Mazda MX5 with the 130 bhp, 1.8 litre engine. This imported car has a lot of great features, including a factory hardtop, coil over suspension, sports exhaust and Nardi steering wheel, all of which enhance the pure sportiness of the MK1 MX5.
This MX5 is not concours by any standard but is a solid little car ready to be used and enjoyed in all weather.
The details of this car are as follows;
History
The car is the 1.8S model, was built in 1994 and exported to the UK in late 2005 with export certificate to prove. It was first UK registered on 5th January 2006 and to date has had just four UK owners.
As of today, the car shows 170,250Km (105,555 miles) on the clock but with MPH speedo. There isn’t much paperwork in the history file with the car so the mileage is not warranted but there is no reason to believe that it is not correct.
The car has an MOT until 1st May 2016 with no advisories and is HPI clear.
Body
This MX5 comes with the factory hardtop which is in great condition, bar for two small paint chips. Additionally, there are more sporty looking front and rear bumpers fitted. The front one appears to have a slight paint mismatch to the rest of the car but the overall look of these and the hardtop do go together really well.
The bodywork is overall in solid condition. The paintwork has received a machine polish and layer of carnauba wax and does shine-up well. However, there are numerous little chips and marks. There is rust on the leading edge of the nearside wing, a small amount on the flange of the nearside rear wheel arch and some on the underside of the boot edge.
The rest of the car is solid however, having had previous repairs to the rear sill and floor areas on both sides in order to pass the MOT carried out in 2013. The work has been done to an acceptable standard.
As mentioned above, the car is not concours but is a good, solid base and would make a great, fun daily driver.
Mechanical/Running gear
The car is good mechanically and benefits from some nice features fitted in Japan. These include a stainless steel four branch manifold, large bore performance exhaust, cone air filter and front and rear strut braces. Finally, this is topped off with coil over suspension.
The coil overs are little bouncy on rough roads, however, they do their job really well and the handling of this MX5 is exceptionally good. The overall package of add-ons with this MX5 make it a great handling little sports car.
The previous owner was an RAF mechanic and had serviced the car including new cam belt. We’ve performed an oil and filter change purely as the car hadn’t been used since last November.
The car starts and drives without problem and has no overheating issues. There are four matching Kumho tyres fitted on TSW allow wheels. All tyres have a good amount of tread remaining.
Finally, we had the four wheels freshly balanced and a laser geometry set-up completed to ensure that this MX5 drives and corners as intended.
Interior
The interior is in good condition for the age of the car and has no wear on the seat bolsters and the headlining of the hard top is in very good condition.
Features include air conditioning, that functions and blows cold, power steering and a Nardi Torino wheel to keep you pointed in the right direction.
Everything works on the car and it has a Pioneer head unit fitted, featuring radio, CD, AUX, USB and iPod connectivity. The radio works off an electric aerial.
This MX5, like many, was suffering from the typical, slow electric window operation. Both window mechanisms have been removed, cleaned and re-greased and they now work as intended.
The soft top is present under the hardtop, without rips in the window or top and is in overall good condition.
For security, there is an immobiliser with fob and one key opens all locks.
Summary
This car is in good, solid condition and with its additional features, makes for a great little MX5 and is real fun to drive.
