*Dons flame-retardant suit*
Preface.
First off I feel I should probably qualify this a bit. I absolutely realise it’s not “retro”. It’s a rustyold modern Italian people carrier. That said, whilst not being “retro” yet per say, I feel it is quite RetroRides. This is because it’s over 14 years old, shonky-as, done on a budget, unusual (ok fugly) and modified - with tongue firmly in-cheek. If you still don’t understand, please read the RR MO here. Thanks.
Right, now that those VV@|\|<£|2$ are gone, hopefully everyone else (all 4 of you) can enjoy following my financial pain, general bodgery, incompetence and suffering without too much interruption. I also hope there will be some high points along the way. Not had one yet but I’m fairly convinced there’s one coming soon...
Whilst I’m off on a sort of intro type thing, here are some pics of my last Multipla – just so you can get a handle on the calibre of unbridled idiocy you are dealing with.
That car was fantastic fun. Bought as a bit of a bad joke and ended up loving it. Came to a sticky ending in the hands of stealthstylz After being painted Smurf blue and being fitted with a gigantic FMIC, he tried to fit a rollcage in through the sunroof – I think – I’ll let him explain that because I don’t know the whole story.
This one will be different to the Hypnotoad. Very different. Primarily because:
A.) Technically it’s not entirely mine.
B.) I’ve been told it is not ever to be lowered in any way, shape or form. LOL K THEN BABE X
C.) I want this one to be finished in a different style.
D.) I couldn’t possibly build one the same.
So it all started after several G&Ts browsing Ebay on a Sunday night. We’ve all been there, it’s how 90% of the cars on this site end up changing hands. I put in a cheeky bid on quite possibly the worst listing I’ve ever seen for a FIAT MULTIPLAYER (ya srsly) with photos taken presumably with some sort of digital watch – you know the ones where you have to turn your head to the side to figure out what the hell it is meant to be.
Description went like this:
Ok so the only reason I'm selling this car is cause it's over 15 yers old this year. I usualy drive to Spain and the AA don't ensure for break downs on cars of this age. This is a cheap family car and I will be sorry to see her go. I had a new clutch fitted for £800+ pounds while in Spain this year.
Bad points, Crack in screen, (significant) however it has 10 months MOT left, it won't pass next test unless it's done.10 months mot, Alloy wheels where untouched till last weeks ice put pade to that, Noisy over bumps in roads (wishbones) common problem on these, I've had 4 I know. Not expensive to fix.
Good points. really tidy car for its age, seats near perfect no rips,Tow bar, double electrics. Sony cd stereo, Brand new clutch fitted, Diesel 1.9 Grab a bargain Cash on collection only Sold as seen.
Well are you sold yet? Looks a reet barg eh? All the hallmarks of a quality item. Furthermore, it was in COMIC SANS. Always a sign of a top notch listing. If it was all in caps I would have just done an instant bank transfer.
I won the ba$tard thing 2 days later – it was at this point I realised it was located in Macclesfield (I live in the southern outskirts of London right by the M25), and after a stint on various travel planning sites I discovered it was going to cost me nearly a quarter of the price of the car to go and get it. Off to a good start then…
