Nothing more to add to what's been said already.
I'll now be unsociably sitting with my phone over Xmas waiting for updates π
Carry on, no pressure whatsoever π

So,after that fax and the shock horror of what a three rotor motor would cost, the idea of making my own wouldn't go away. My spannering apprenticeship had taught me loads. Picasso I am not,but my drawings had improved too My drawing style had improved too. More like this is what I needed. It was a step in the right direction. But, there was still one niggly little problem with me making a three rotor motor.I knew enough about it to know that there would be a lot of machining involved. I had never machined anything. Never turned anything on a lathe. Never milled anything on a milling machine. Had zero knowledge or experience of cylindrical grinding. Apart from that there was no stopping me. Off to go learn those skills. Back in a couple of years.....

Johnny you're not allowed to finish the car
I'll not have any reading fodder to anticipate if you do
Oh that reminds me..... I've got a car that needs doing somewhere sometime in the future. New Years resolution coming up π

If it can be fixed with a hammer, then it must be an electrical fault

I was extremely fortunate over the next ten years or so,to be surrounded by the people I was. My father in law with whom I had done my apprenticeship had sadly passed away following a car accident quite a few months before. I went to go work for a company that did mass production turning. Owned by a German artisan of note, I learned loads. Following on from that I got head hunted by one of his customers,to go and work for him. Again, a German, but this time German precision tool making. This was where I really learnt how to machine and where I started with CADCAM. A change of continent saw me leave there about 7 years ago ,and I started where I am. Now. So, confident in the knowledge I could succeed with the three rotor ,I started. Like most things, it started with a sketch That got expanded over the following months. The most important bit would be the eccentric shaft, the rotary equivalent to a crankshaft. On a two rotor motor the rotor journals are 180 degrees apart. On all Mazda rotary engines, the rotor journals are 15mm offset to the centreline of the shaft,i.e., have a "stroke" of 15mm's. On a three rotor, the rotor journals would be 120 degrees away from each other. On a four rotor, they would be 90 degrees .From a machining point of view,it would be a lot easier to make a four rotor shaft. That's why I decided on the three, more of a challenge The drawings slowly developed into this And that's when some of the challenges regarding machining this shaft started to become apparent. This wasn't going to be a five minute job,I had a lot of figuring out to do...

Reference to rotors two and three needing to be swopped will be explained later. It had to do with how I had marked something at a later stage that could cause issues.

If I'm reading the map fling right you've bought parts from Llanddarog in Wales? That's 2 miles from my house. Does someone have one of these cars near me? I've never seen one.

There was a guy who hailed from your part of the world who used to work for Mazda. He bought up the contents of a dealer there that was closing down. Amongst it all, there were a couple of bits for my car. He had a beautiful Mazda 1000 built as a hillclimb car. Not sure if it ever got finished ,as he seemed to be more involved with a kitcar/ lotus 7 type car that he was competing with. That's where I got the parts manual from. Brilliant for finding out part numbers

Don't tell me you picked something up on your layover in Manila? Hang on...That doesn't sound right...Let me try again. Don't tell me you found something relevant to a rotary powered vehicle whilst you waited in Manila Airport for your connecting flight to Australia? Yes, that's better.

It's in the middle of nowhere. Perhaps they had a big clear out of the older stuff. I do a bit if motorsport myself but gave never seen this gus car about.

Could well be. I saw photos of the car whilst it was still being built. Very well built. Navy blue colour. Landed up getting some parts for him in Holland.

Got some indicator lenses from Mayalsia awhile back, then found two original ones in Holland.

You've found the original parts from a special one off for a dealer built engine?
I've spent the last 7 hours reading this thread and I am blown away by your attention to detail and passion for this build
Brings in forklift to lift jaw of floor.
Bookmarked, subscribed, liked etc etc.
