^^ And here I am thinking I could leave metal alone. Would much prefer wood....just not sure how to weld up my mistakes..... Ditto , I'm a welder by trade now working with Hydraulics . Something so nice and warm about wood compared to hard nasty industrial metal .

And moreover, wood has it's own agenda, it's own inherent beauty. It has shapes and patterns pre-loaded, whereas metal mostly is featureless until you give it form. You're always working with wood, but just working on metal, if that makes sense. There's probably a more eloquent way of putting that, but it escapes me at the moment!

And even better, all your mistakes as a joiner could be used in the barbecue ....then again, the same could be said about the farm vet....

Have been looking at pulleys and belts. This used a poly v belt, which has a smaller rib profile than a multi v belt that most cars use today. I wanted to stick with this, as the motor is fitted with a flywheel with an integral pulley. A bit of inertia can't hurt my cause Pulleys are available at about £40-£50 each. I would need three,so bit of a no brainier...... Buy a suitable tool to make them for £70. Can also use this when I make the pulleys for the three rotor Got the pulley dimensions off the internet, drew up the profile for a seven rib pulley and gave it a wiz. Programmed in a similar fashion to cutting a thread, where it follows the profile instead of just plunging in. Came out extremely well Difficult to photograph with a phone, but I am happy with that

Mojo for this has taken a serious dive. Taking a break for a couple of days to get my head straight. Some of you who have been on this journey from the start may recognise this photo ,it from a good friend of mine in South Africa. Stayed with him, temporarily stored rx2 parts there prior to shipping. Used his old pickup to fetch and carry. Anyway, Tuesday afternoon saw his silver Ford Ranger turned into a sieve. Two gunmen pumped 15 rounds into it,hitting him three times in the neck, once in the back and once in the chest. The quick thinking of an off duty policeman saved his life. Details sketchy but they seem to think he was followed from the bank. He is alive, out of ICU last night. My thoughts and prayers are with him and his family at this difficult, and painful time. And here we sit and moan about the weather. We don't know we are born........

Johnny, knowing you a bit better than your thread and upbeat nature allows one to, I know that this is a whole lot harder and deeper for you. I hope you find solace in whatever you manage to do in the next few weeks. If you need, there is always a kettle on over here, and you are welcome to come over and discuss life or just stand and hand me tools. Prayers for your friend and his family.

Bad news, I wish your friend a speedy recovery. Whenever I find myself moaning about first-world problems these days I say to myself 'there's kids with nee shoes' and shut my mouth - things like this, unfortunately, put life into perspective.

Not good. It's so easy to get wrapped up in your own problems and loose sight of just how full our glasses are in this part of the world.
Best wishes for your mate, and to you.
Leave things a bit, and take the time to catch your thoughts.
You can come to Dover and vent your frustrations on an old lorry with an angle-grinder if you like...

Thanks for all the kind comments. I feel pretty restless and easily distracted at the moment. It has brought back all the reasons why I left eight years ago. It's also brought back some memories I would sooner have forgotten. Not what I need with the next couple of bits I need to make. So better judgement says leave it alone for awhile. Got some bits to find and order,so will do that during the week. Think I am going to go to Brands Hatch next week and support a friend who is in his first full season of racing. Bit of a break, change of scenery and will be back. Stay tuned......

Keep smiling Johnny, I have family in the Cape and it is a constant worry as this sort of 'thing' is becoming more common. Trust that your pal makes a full recovery - enjoy the racing and keep us all informed. Like others have said, always a brew and a Rusk at PY towers, maybe even a Braai! P.

From this... To this in five days Incredible progress. Released from hospital five days after the incident. Long road ahead ,but taking giant leaps in the right direction. I have machined some pretty tough materials in my life ,but nothing comes close to whatever this guy is made of. Go Mike !

Having recently been where you are now, I am staggered about a) the luck that sometimes we all need and b) the power of the body to recover, along with the will of the mind to do so. Best wishes to your mate from all of us here.

Many years ago whilst in the Cape there was a news item on the TV about a paratrooper who's chute had failed to open. The guy was laid up in hospital with broken this and that but awake and smiling with his commanding officer by his bed side with the the news crew. When asked by the reporter why/how the paratrooper had survived this horrific fall his reply? "Because they are strong and tough men" (said in your best Africaans accent) Think this applies here as well. Good to hear he is making a recovery. P.
