Description:
For sale is my 1980 Porsche 924 Lux, it is the manual 2.0 litre in guards red.
Good points:
Very comprehensive service history along with a load of receipts
Was driven daily until recently due to a lack of disposable income (I need to downsize my toybox)
Drives very well, very responsive and tonnes of fun!
Pretty good on fuel for a "sports" car, On a run it gets over 40mpg!
Very good condition underneath, I think it may have had one small patch of welding, but other than that the galvanised shell has stood up to the weather very well!
I have paperwork to say the that in its life the car has received, new big end bearings and journals, a new head gasket, new camshaft, new piston rings and a few other big jobs, I will check when this was done, all work was carried out by a Porsche specialist
Oil pressure is the best I have seen in one of these, and burns no oil whatsoever, which is impressive as these engines do not have oil scraper rings on the pistons!
Full V5 in my name.
Under my ownership it has received,
A brand new clutch around 2,000 miles ago complete with thrust bearing, guide tube, rear brake cylinder as one side was leaking, reconditioned flywheel and reconditioned torque tube (drive shaft) which is silent! (The old one had shot bearings) This alone cost in excess of £500 for labour and around £300 in parts!
Not so good:
The paintwork has been badly touched up in places, although it is very presentable as it is there are numerous small scratches and the odd small dent (car park dings), this never bothered me, as if it was pristine, I wouldn't want to drive it every day!
It could benefit from new injectors, these are of the mechanical variety, push fit into the intake manifold, the spring which keeps the injectors shut has gone weak with age on a couple of them, this can lead to warm start issues as the injectors sometimes flood the cylinders
The alternator requires a new diode pack, these are fairly cheap but I have never got around to doing it, means that although the battery charges when the engine running, a dud diode allows the battery to discharge back through the alternator over night, this appears to happen just every now and again.
The seats are ripped in the usual places for these, all padding is present, and the stitching on the leather steering wheel needs re-doing.
There is a very slight blow on the exhaust manifold where it bolts to the block, requires a new gasket.
I have been as honest as possible with the advert, feel free to come and have a look and poke around under the car or whatever you fancy!
Pictures:
I can send more photos on request if desired!
Reason for sale is that I am downsizing to just one car and I need something that can seat 4 people in a little more comfort than the old 924 can, so I am selling this to fund getting my mk2 golf back on the road.
I am open to reasonable offers, if I get no interest I will put it through and MOT and put it on ebay! Just thought someone might be interested in getting a good deal on here first!
Thanks for taking a look!
Michael.
