Ok, lets not mess about, this is a seriously good car, very very well sorted and maintained, and all done using an excellent example of a GTi6, so fingers crossed i can get the right peoples interest on this one, as this is one very unique and special motor, and very very likely the best value opportunity that will crop up all year!
Right, here goes.
This car is one of many retro and classic model Peugeots owned by the same "mature" gentleman. I have the task, as i have done many times before, of selling it for him as he works out of the country for much of the time, thus making it pretty difficult to be around to sell something, answer questions etc etc.
I will try and answer what i can as quickly as i can, but on occasion there is bound to be queries raised that i cannot glean from the car itself or the stack of paperwork i have for it, please be patient whilst i consult the current owner.
Which, has owned this GTi6 since November 2010. The Lynx Supercharger kit had not long been installed, by CG Cars. This begun with an engine pull down, assessment to suitability, and fully rebuilt to receive the kit. This is the "low boost" kit, designed to be installed on a stock and healthy motor, i.e. standard compression, and targetting circa 230 to 250 bhp. This type of install means that the driving characteristics of the standard car are largely maintained, only greatly exaggerated, unlike high boost forced induction that can result in compromises, lag, and a whole heap of extra work, expense, and potential reliability issues!
This install was done when the car had covered around 97k, and the motor was assessed to be in very good health, but rebuilt anyway. In march of 2013, a new Rotrex Compressor was installed, at a cost of over £1500, following a centre shaft bearing issue, and was again installed by CG Cars.
Since then, the car has been utterly faultless, quite likely to do with the combination of the mature ownership, his meticulous approach to its maintenance, and the excellent knowledge and servicing of Pugsports Carl Chambers.
Carl has looked after the car for most of its requirements right up until today, with the occasional deviation to another excellent independent engineer, who only last year replaced the compressor pulleys and bearing as part of preventative maintenance.
They're are numerous receipts and invoices evidencing all sorts and aspects of its history, including the most recent cambelt service, performed at around 124k, and the car has now covered 143k.
These numbers sound high to some folk, but all i can say is, i have driven this car for the best part of 100 miles myself, and this is the sweetest motor i have ever been around in a Peugeot, which is fair to say are often a little bit busy sounding around the top end, but this is simply spot on, 100% mechanically sorted.
There is absolutely no evidence of stress or wear on the motor, clutch, gearbox, etc, and the drive of the car replicates this even further.
Apart from the strut brace, the car is completely stock suspension, brakes, chassis etc and due to the high level of maintenance, are all in perfect working order and well up to the job. Recent front brake discs and pads, Toyo Proxes rear tyres, very recently fitted new Yokohama S-Drove fronts, handbrake cable, and general fettling, mean it drives every bit the way it should do. Very tight, loads of corner grip, and because of using the right parts, it is just a pleasure to drive in any way you care too.
This really is a real street sleeper, looking little more than an understated and handsome Gti, only the lifetime guarantee Powerflow exhaust system giving the game away slightly, by which time, its too late and this black wolf in sheeps clothing is tearing off into the distance! This exhaust still retains a sports cell catalyst, and MOT time is always a breeze, no issues or conflicts whatsoever. Curently MOT'd until Novemeber 2015, car will be left taxed until sold and collected so legal to drive away at first opportunity.
Speaking of MOT's, i have in the folder every single mot from the first to last. Thats the kind of history you want with a classic or retro car like this eh!
Bodywork is also very very good indeed. No rust whatsoever, the underside being retreated and re sealed also, a very solid car that shows no signs of changing in a hurry. The bonnet does have some give away signs of being refreshed at some point, but with a few minor stonechips tended to and a good polish i'm sure it would be as glorious as it should be. A very tidy and honest car i'd say, not unrealisticly perfect, or knobbed up and messed about, but way way better than you'd expect from a 98 Pug, and a very good looking car.
Interior, is very very good too. The dashboard is a dream, not messed with, without holes everywhere or gauges and tacky add on's. Just a nice sony head unit, sitting in a completely stock and excellent dash. The seats, which are always a weakness in all GTi cars, are possibly the only area of slight concern. They're all in very good solid condition, no problems there at all, but Alcantara being the way it is, the drivers seat needed some attention quite some time ago. This meant that the majority of the alcantara was removed and replaced with cloth instead. Its a bit greeny compared to the rest, but at least it won't bobble up again! Only other thing worthy of a remark is the steering wheel which is a bit tired now, but i'm sure that is easily and cheaply replaced with another stock peugeot one or even something a little more interesting?
Not wanting to finish on a negative, if you're into your Pugs, you really should come and see and experience this one properly, this will not disappoint in any way at all.
I have been 100% honest about all aspects of the car, and have mentioned all that i know about it. Although not my own car, i'm a keen retro car man myself, and this is the best Pug i have ever been around, bar none!
and i'll be totally honest about another thing, and that is that i think it way too cheap personally, and i am repeatedly telling the owner that according over 1000 views in less than 24hours, and the amount of questions and enquiries it is getting, i think i must be right. I am seriously suggesting that we advertise it elsewhere, and for a higher price, and i have no doubt at all it will achieve it at the first person to come and see it.
There is a guy currently trying to sell just parts of a broken car with supercharger for similar money to this superb Pug, so i don't need to try very hard really to show what a great and cheap opportunity this is.The way i see it, if looked after it will only possibly go up in value, not down!
Anyone serious, is going to come and see it over a lengthy visit and many cups of tea i'm sure, and that's what i'm really after, the real enthusiasts that know what they're looking at, what it is and what its worth. So come over to NG23, near Newark, Nottinghamshire, and lets get this superb sleeper a new owner.
