Overview
We are pleased to be offering for sale on behalf of one of our customers, their immaculate, restored 1983 MK1 Golf GTI Campaign model, in Helios Blue.
This car has in recent years been the subject of a full, nut and bolt restoration, with bare shell re-spray and it has been completed to a very high standard.
If you are looking for one of the best MK1 Golf GTIs currently for sale, with the added bonus of it being a rare, Helios Blue Campaign model, then look no further.
The details of this car are as follows;
History
The car was registered on 21st October 1983 and whilst it has had a total of ten owners, having received a full nut and bolt restoration, the car is in about as good a condition as you could wish to find.
The current owner acquired the vehicle on 23rd November 2013. He is a known member of the MK1 Golf Owners Club and has cherished the vehicle in his ownership, spending a fair amount of money on a few finishing touches for the car.
He had purchased the Golf from the owner that conducted a full restoration on the car and had owned the car for over 9 years. The restoration included a bare shell re-spray, full engine rebuild and all parts being replaced with new or restored as required. Even the underside of the car is highly detailed and like new.
The current owner is now simply not finding the time to enjoy this lovely MK1 Golf and cannot bear any longer to see it sat idle. Therefore, he wishes to pass it on to someone who has the time to enjoy it and continue to care for it as it deserves.
Needless to say, there is a stack of paperwork with the car including restoration expenses, most MOTs since 1990 and plenty of other receipts substantiating the thousands that have been spent on this car.
This MK1 Golf GTI is currently driving on a private plate (not pictured) of GLF 188V - spaced to GLF 18 8V - which is very fitting for the 1.8 litre, 8 valve Golf! This plate can be purchased at £895 or the car will revert to its original plate.
The car is priced at £13,995 without the private plate, which we feel is a very reasonable price given how much money has been spent on getting it to its current, high standard.
This Golf has 143,600 miles on the clock and is HPI clear (certificate available.) The car will have a fresh MOT put on it for the new owner. The car will be sold as a private sale directly with the current owner but please liaise with us for further information and to organise a viewing.
Body
Having had a full, bare shell restoration there is not too much to say on the bodywork other than it is in exceptional condition. There is no rust on the car, the panels are all original and the Helios Blue paintwork has been finished to a high standard.
All of the original details are maintained and correct, such as the silver side stripes, front spoiler, A-pillar trims and original spot lamps.
The underside of the car received as much attention as the topside and needless to say, is clean, fresh and looking like new.
The current owner recently paid for the car to be fully Waxoyled in all cavities to preserve the as-new condition.
Mechanical/Running gear
All mechanicals of the car were restored or replaced so the car runs like a new MK1 Golf. The original Campaign model Pirelli alloy wheels and centre caps are present and were also refurbished at high cost.
All tyres are matching, Pirelli P6000s with plenty of tread left and the spare wheel is also a Pirelli alloy with centre cap.
All running gear is standard from the suspension through to the exhaust. The engine won 2nd place at the 2012 MK1 Golf Owners Club annual meet Show 'n' Shine Best Engine category and the car itself won the Club's 2014 Car of the Year award.
Interior
The interior is in fantastic, original condition and still maintains the Campaign model features, such as the correct, leather-bound steering wheel. The seats are the original GTI stripe version without any bolster wear.
This MK1 Campaign edition has its original Blaupunkt radio cassette still fitted and all other original features - it also has three VDO gauges in the centre console. Sadly, the MFA/Clock display does not work correctly, but this is the only small negative on an otherwise exceptional car.
This Golf also has an immobiliser fitted and a spare set of keys.
Summary
MK1 Golfs of this standard do not come up for sale too often and with the added bonus of this one being the rare, Campaign edition in Helios Blue, it really is an opportunity not to be missed.
We know the car and owner very well and can vouch for the car's integrity and quality. If you are looking to buy one of the best MK1 Golf GTIs out there, then look no further.
