Now I am confused!!
I am picking up my new barge tomorrow and cannot work out if the tax transfers or not.
Like you no doubt, I assumed tax won't transfer under new rules howver, when I type the Reg number into DVLA, it says that because its a 1999 car, I can only buy 6 or 12 months like we used to? I was trying to find out the monthly payments by direct debit but the DVLA site says not available until November?
So, the question is, when I buy it tomorrow, is the tax currently on it transferrable to me?

Hi, I suspect that because the car is new to you they want you to buy 6 months which takes it to end of Oct then you can go monthly on renewal. Good old DVLA ever changing rule book. And no the tax doesn't transfer.

Hi, I did it monthly on the renewal of my '83 Saab, but it may not be available for a new keeper of a vehicle.

Pay monthly is available to everyone, doesn't matter on the age of your vehicle (tax-exempt is pretty obvious!), or if you're a new owner or not.
Tax does not transfer when you purchase or sell a vehicle.
The DVLA site will however, tell you that the vehicle already has a current tax "disc" if the previous owner hasn't already cashed it in.

It shows as 6/12 moths because it is currently taxed, when you buy the car and put in the green slip doc number you will get the option of how to pay. I have just done a 1970s car on monthly.
