The Opel Kadett B was introduced in 1965 and ran until 1973. Renowned for being "unapologetically slab-sided", it was an enormous success in both Germany and Europe. Such was its reliability and practicality that it became a true family favourite and, in the late 1960s, it finally managed to out-sell the iconic VW Beetle which by then as becoming a touch old hat and was also nowhere near as large and utilitarian as the chunkier middle-market Opel. The Kadett B was launched after Vauxhall's Viva HA (however, bear in mind that notwithstanding the GM connection, Opel and Vauxhall were still separate entities at the time) and went on to become so successful that it was still being produced by the time Vauxhall were onto their third Viva, the HC!
Now, I remember these old girls with much affection and am well aware of their driving capabilities as well as their superb fuel economy. My father was the UK's first Opel dealer back in the 1960s and these Kadetts sold like hot cakes. Slightly quirky and "deliberately old-fashioned" they may have been, but they were well priced, rock solid, reliable, economical, the right size for a family and you would struggle to find ANY mid-sized family car with a bigger and deeper boot than the Kadett B!
This superb example was one family owned until a month or so ago and has been cherished all its life. It is so rare to see this totally Germanic piece of engineering on the roads today - indeed many people do not even know what make and model it is! Anyway, she is in great nick and is a delight to drive. They have a kind of lazy yet strong feel on the road - they always did - and will tootle along in top all day long. The interior, with its typically German vinyl upholstery, is so very much of the time. All dials function correctly and even the time clock works! They are great drivers these Kadetts and have such wonderful torque, taking you around roundabouts and up hills in top gear should you fancy it.
A smashing example of this by-gone model, she is probably one of the best in the UK and should go on for ever if cared for in the manner to which she is accustomed. Indeed is there another available anywhere? The engine bay is in superb order and I have removed the boot mat in order to show the excellent condition of the boot floor! I accept all major credit/debit cards and can also assist with delivery if required. A ten per cent deposit is required at the point of sale with the balance due within three days. Thanks for reading. Martin (07595-020282).
TRIED TO UPLOAD PIX, BUT CLEARLY NOT CLEVER ENOUGH!!
