don't really want to sell this but have other stuff on the go and it's hard to justify at the moment.
MOT'd till end of July.
Has been in regular use (these don't like sitting about for long periods)
Starts runs and drives fine, behaves fine in traffic, doesn't run hot or overheat, fans cut in and out fine, all guages and the electric windows work.
New timing belt, water pump, plugs, coil, converted to electronic ignition (Accuspark), new fuel pump, new fuel line and filters, pressure regulator, battery, new front tyres and anti roll bar bushes, stainless steel exhausts, big K&N filters, new accelerator cable, new clutch cable, all fluids recently changed and cooling system flushed.
Drivers door hinge rebuilt.
Previous owner had the rear brakes done (big job) and all the brake pipes replaced, engine is a 907 slant four twin cam 16V, carbs are twin 45 Dellorto DHLA's, oil pressure is fine, engine is noisy for first 30 seconds of start up (common on these) until the pressure builds up, no choke, starts and idles fine from cold with a few pumps, starts fine hot with no pumps.
Car was originally an Auto with A/C and power steering, now a five speed Manual with Manual steering and no A/C (steering obviously heavy at parking speeds).
No carpets or soundproofing at all, it was all rotten so i ripped it out and binned it, headlining has been fixed (was sagging), VGC Mazda MX5 leather front seats have been fitted to replace the rotten originals, these sit a bit higher than standard, fine for my height (5'7") but may need lowered for someone taller, rear leather/vinyl seats are a bit rough but useable, no seatbelts in the rear. Rear wash wipe has been deleted, no ICE fitted at all. Struts missing from tailgate (nice made to measure stick supplied).
Headlight pods are a bit of a calamity, they are closed with vacuum and opened with a spring, main thing is they stay down (mostly) when not in use and stay up when needed, the system can be easily disabled so they stay up all the time, i think these cars look ugly with the pods up though.
Paint looks good at a glance and in the pics but it's rough on close inspection, microblistered on the wings and front, an ugly but strong repair on the O/S tailgate hinge, i can live with it as is but some would want to get the car resprayed eventually.
Chassis is solid, has been recently Waxoyled.
Play in rear wheel bearings was advised at last MOT, i think the play is in the drive shaft U/J's, fitted new U/J's but i think the play is in the shafts themself's (common weakness with these), fine just now but will need dealt with before next MOT (better shafts sourced ?
Needless to say it get's a LOT of attention when out and about, you just don't see these driving about, look's bonkers among modern chod.
That's all i can think of for now, a rare, reliable S1 Elite that starts, drives and can be used as it is or fixed up over time, or restored eventually.
PM on here if interested, more pics ? just ask, probably loads i've forgot.
Located in Paisley just outside Glasgow.
