Now that the tax disc is dead and we no longer have to display one I was going to buy one from the date of my car's first manufacture and display that but then got to wondering if I could get done for displaying an out of date tax disc. I have had no luck searching for the answer on-line so hope some one here could shed some light on it.

Hi, there is now no requirement to display one, indeed they don't issue one because it's all online now. So I don't see how it can be an offence.

I've done it with my Viva, got a 1971 disc in it - since the paper disc is now obsolete it makes no difference.

As has been said its fine, when I got stopped in my van the only comment was that he had a period correct one on display in his ford too!

No offence is displaying a piece of paper in the screen as long as it doesn't obstruct the drivers view of the road.

got one on my landy i know this is a bit nerdy but don't forget a car first registered in 1982 wouldn't have had a 1982 tax disk. well, unless it was early and was a 6 month disk. anyway, you get what i mean, the disk shows the expiry date so would be 1983 disk oh and seeing as they are likely to fade i'd also recommend making "backup" copies which may or may not involve the colour photocopier at work

Well after all these years somehow a car doesn't look right with no tax disc, so I'm still displaying the very last paper one I bought which ran out after the "no longer need to display" diktat from the DVLA.
Personally I was hoping there was a typo and they'd meant to say "no longer need to pay" given "Bagheera" is now 27 years old (and weathering very well).
