The idea for this day-trip was to drive along the northern part of Adriatic highway in Croatia.
Adriatic highway is a very scenic road that runs along the entire length of Croatian coast, and also continues into Montenegro.
I had to get up quite early to do the three-hours drive from my house to the gathering point.
The other two crews had much shorter drive from Koper on Slovenian coast.
Our meeting point was Bakarac near Rijeka.
After driving along the coast for a while, and passing the towns of Crikvenica and Novi Vinodolski, we made a quick pit-stop in Senj.
Another short stop in Sveti Juraj.
Then we left the coast and drove inland, on the steep road up the Velebit massif.
We stopped at a spot with a fabulous view of Krk island, for a quick picnic lunch.
A couple of pictures from the drive across Velebit.
On the other side of Velebit, we passed through Otočac town…
… and stumbled upon this DC3 Dakota at Otočac airfield.
Next, we drove to Gospić, where we made a turn towards the coast again.
That meant crossing the Velebit massif again, across the mountain pass named Oštarijska Vrata (altitude 928 m).
The stretch of road from the pass down to the coast is quite scenic, with hairpin turns and great views of the Adriatic sea and Pag island.
We were on the Adriatic highway again, and driving back towards Senj.
The day ended with a tasty seafood dinner in Sveti Juraj.
