Hey all, I'm planning on fitting a new more modern/powerful engine into my 1977 toyota corona. Needs to be rwd and manual! Wanting the whole car so I have loom etc and everything I might need. Wanting over 150bhp minimum, ideally turbo 200+ bhp but as cheap as possible! Was thinking Lexus is200 for a 6 speed 2.0 but probably abit under powered for what I'm after, but can be found for about £600 with mot! Would love a Lexus v8 but struggling to find one in manual? Ideally around the £600-800 mark but cheaper is best obviously! Any high power rusty cars to look out for?! Mot failure would be ideal would love to stick Japanese buy rwd manual J cars seem to hold alot of money for drift days! What would you choose? Jack

volvo b230fk from a late 940
135hp stock, up the boost for ~200 on std parts. Swap turbo and injectors for >250, up to 400 can be had for larger investment
Complete car can be had for £500.
Manual boxes for a Lexus (or soarer) are like poor quality wobbly children's play pony doo-doo

A rotary would be cool but they only sell so cheap because the engines are knackered haha
I'm getting more and more tempted by v6 and v8s though, I miss both in my life!

Keep missing £500 Lexus ls400s Any one had much experience putting a manual box on a 1uzfe? 280bhp would be nice! And love a v8 Such a cheap donor vehicle I wouldn't mind running it for a few months till MOT was up then spending £4-500 on a manual box!

There was never a manual option for the lexus gs or Ls there is tiptronic with small buttons on steering wheel, As posted earlier manual boxes are big bucks.

^ that is just not true! No way do you get that "starts & runs" for anything like the current £200 bid. Mind - with only a couple of days to go... At that kind of price, you can buy another to rip apart & mock-up with

I saw one about 6 months ago go for £250! Didn't drive due to massive rear end damage, but engine was fine and there was good service history. I really have no idea if you could make it run out of the car easily, I was just making the point that salvage places yield better deals than eBollox. Some of the beemers on there are really good for the money.

Oops No offence meant by my last post, the " Gosh - I *really* would have thought they went for a lot more than that" thinking got lost somewhere, I'm very surprised - not arguing or looking to upset anyone. Can I offer a pic as an apology ?

None taken, I rarely take anything as narky. I was massively surprised to see what it went for, it's really got me thinking, which is probably a bad thing. There's got to be loads of useful in that pic. If fwd is your thing then there's literally twice as much fun to be had on those auction sites.

I'd stick with the IS200 idea its nice light and tuneable to boost.
Plenty of bits out there nice revvy engine and reliable.

Some days you just need to take a grinder to an inanimate object, just to make your day a tiny bit better!!

Mx5 lump is really under powered for what I'm after!
Who ever suggested the volvo lump might be onto something! I've just bought a 940 estate for £300 with a years mot (I'm moving house and it's basically the size of a van haha) researching the b230 engines they have great potential and mega cheap donors!
