Hello all, Have been thinking about fitting a Lexus LS400 engine and gearbox in my Cresta in place of the straight six. Now, the Lexus engine if it fits will be much lighter than the Vauxhall and I'm wondering how this would affect the handling. Is it a bad idea? Cheers

Lighter parts are always better for handling than heavier parts. The only downside will be that the car will sit slightly higher than it did before due to the lack of weight pushing it down and it will be slightly over damped (but this will be negligible as it s not like fitting track dampers!) The easiest solution would be to measure the stock height before you tear it apart, then measure again when the new engine is in and running. If it sits, say 40mm higher, get some -40mm lowering springs for it Also remember to get the tracking done once the ride heights been changed

I'm not sure about the PC, but the PB Cresta is very narrow between the chassis rails, which makes fitting a V8 rather challenging. I think the Lexus motor is quite wide, so you'll need to do a lot of measurements.
As for the springs, again I'm not sure about the PC, but the PB Cresta's springs are the same diameter as the Mercedes 190,and are a direct swap. Might be worth investigating.

Hi B-D I put a Rover V8 in my PA many years ago and the stock springs we ok The Rover engine is a lot narrower than the lexus and clearance was tight with the stock steering box, I had to make headers to go around things in the way. All the Crestas have narrow chassis rails intended for the inline 6 so clearance is tight, however Vauxhall did do a PC for the South African market with a 318 Mopar engine in. I am in the process of lowering my current PB and are using Mercedes C200 springs. Hope this helps. Cheers Dave
