A bit of much needed exterior work tonight. Front bumper off, most time consuming part was removing four bolts that didn't need to be removed ... Rear bumper off... Standard bumper (which the breaker kindly scribbled a chassis number on in permanent marker) versus Rider bumper ... Fitted (well enough for the time it will be fitted for) ...

Jerrica isn't from Mad Max, no... Jerrica is from something very different.

I dropped the front grill off at the local powder coating company this morning. £30. Seems a good price and should stand up to stone chips more than the paint did. The quality of the work of the completed pieces in the workshop seems good.

I've decided that my wheels do need powdercoatjng I'm afraid so what are people's thoughts on gloss black or minty? I'll probably be losing the vinyls at the end of the year too (definitely will if I go minty wheels as the mint will be lighter than the vinyl and I don't think they'd work with pink at the back)

I like the black - minty to my eyes is too much - draws your eyes only to the wheels and not the full effect of the van.

Rather than black, what about one of the very dark chrome finishes? Combined with minty centre caps that could work very nicely. Shame to hear the pink is disappearing.
EDIT: I hadn't seen the post above when I wrote that ^ So... yeah. XD

XD Pink may make a comeback but there's a few bits that are peeling / creased so some areas need to go, just a case of getting a pattern / design that suits the lines

I think that would tie together nicely - maybe flat squares rather than diamonds though - but I think I want to go more subtle.

More work completed today and starting to feel like I'm actually going to complete it now - Still lots to do of course but most of the woodwork is repeats of what I've already done so far. Marked up the teardrop layers... Cut with a jigsaw as it's less dusty so I could do it in the garden rather than shut myself away in the garage... Cut out for 6M speaker terminals... Test fit and markup speaker bolt holes.. Drilled and speaker placed back in... Bolts pushed through... Repeat for the 10W... Holes drilled through into layer 3... 8mm holes drilled and threaded inserts into the reverse of layer 1 so layer 3 can be bolted to it once all fitted in the bus... Bolts test fitted and tightened in to countersink the holes... Then repeated for driver's side layers 4 & 5, layers 1,2, and 3 will be routered out on Monday... And the I had time for a bit of metalwork, this 4mm thick steel plate will bolt to the floor through the OEM floor holes that were for the seat rails section that I removed and I'll bolt the sub box to it ....

Layers 4 & 5 driver's side glued together, bolts in place just to ensure they were lined up correctly...

It was time to build up the driver's side door card today. Layer 2 internal cut-out and speaker cut outs complete... Layer 1 internal cut-out and speaker cut outs complete, lined up with layer 2 and holes drilled through to attach them to door structure... Layer 3 cut out ... Bolts compressed into the door holes in layer 2 so layer 3 could be placed on top and holes drilled through to fit layers together ... Holes drilled through... Threaded inserts fitted into layers 1 & 2 and M5 machine screws tightened into place to fix layers 1,2, and 3 together ... Checking fitment on the door... After a few trial and error measures and jigsaw cuts it fits... After checking in the car for required fitment of layers 4 & 5 I clamped them to layers 1,2 & 3 so holes can be drilled through for the speaker bolts to go right through all 5 layers... Then dinner was ready so time to call it a day.

Yesterday lunch time i fitted the spike bolts onto the driver's side upper door card... but mainly I removed the waterproof liners from both door cards in anticipation to cleaning them for sound deadening... I also had time to redrill a couple of holes in the metal structure where the bolts didn't quite line up, it's a real solid fit now even without putting nuts on the reverse side! I do need to cut some of the metal work behind the speakers though, and also part of the upper door card... Slight gap behind but sound a deadening layer in the lower section will fill that... I also had chance to test fixing my main cover panel without access to behind as it will be for real... I also did a final test close of the passenger door, glad I did as a little bit of jigsaw work was required to fit it around the dashboard edge, but I learnt that from the driver's door yesterday. I had to re-drill a couple of holes in the door structure and have a final test fit of the driver's door panel too... The only work not fully planned yet is a piece of trim that will need to go along the top of the main door card panels (layer 3s) to hide the back of the speakers and to prevent and sound waves escaping from above... I think this will be a piece of 12mm MDF fixed along the top with glue onto the top of layer 3 and three or four countersink headed bolts through to L brackets along the length. I can't cut the shape of this until I have the upper door cards refitted so next plans are... 1. Sound deaden the upper areas 2. Fit the upper door cards 3. Temporarily fit the new panels 4. Measure up and make cardboard templates 5. Make out of MDF and fix to layer 3 6. Sand 7. Seal with MDF primer 8. Trim with vinyl Damn that list is bigger than it felt in my head!!! I wish I could work nights so I could do this in the day!

PS my front end doesn't half look funny with a spare standard bumper on instead of the rider bumper... There's about 2" more ground clearance and the chassis number of the donor vehicle is kindly scrawled on by the breaker who sold it.
