I have come close to being in a similar situation with regards to work done on a retro or checking it afterwards and while in different ways a few people have dealt with similar situations here like our own luckyseven and in some respects also jimbo200sx. Personally it's a very hard one to call. To Keep | To Get Rid | Know what has been done to the car ; the good things and the condition | Know what could arise out of this repair; but it looks like you have seen it. | Spending the cash but knowing that you have a very solid car | Spending the cash ; what else can you get? |
Part of me is tempted to say stick with it. But what else is wrong with the car and in all seriousness could you get an XJS which doesn't pour water in and be sound around this area that doesn't cost a king's ransom? Hopefully after the repair has been done the car should be great for years to come and rustproofed in this area too, where it looks like an area Jaguar didn't bother with. I'm sure you know what will be best. The more I think about it the more I reckon repair it. I hope the legal representation works out well too! There are too many specialists out there who are nothing more than glorified mechanics. As I said and you probably know you are not the only one here and it would be nice to see the customer get a win for once.

Yeah, it has been but not quite over yet. Doors are now going to be repainted too as the previous prep had been rubbish and as the dash is out there's a few bits worth replacing. I'm probably going to upgrade the dash lighting too.

Dan once this is over, from one owner to another, mind if we have a chat?
Regardless, amazing to see it come on. Really pleased for you. And this loooks like a good job this time: once this is all done the car should be rust free there for the rest of it's life and be sure to tell any future buyers if you want to sell this fact because any XJS without this work will suffer from it (unless it somehow never saw rain or something!?)

Just read this from the start, what a truly beautiful car. Sad that you've had issues but it looks like it's finally getting done properly. Which is fantastic.

Nice to see the cars receiving the treatment it deserves. One quick suggestion, its worth checking round the transmission tunnel as this is double skinned and can be prone to rusting through from one side but looking fine on the other. The pictures attached are of mine when it had the leaking windscreen issue. Unfortunately the previous owner (or garage they used) just stuffed filler everywhere and painted it. So it wasn't obvious until I really got in there. Hopefully yours are ok though, as your floors look to be in much better nick then mine were but, as you've gone to all this effort, worth checking! Very glad you are having this repaired properly. It is a beautiful car. I am heartened that you managed to recover some money from the initial garage which made the shameful and dangerous bodge.
But, my word the XJ-S knows how to rust! They're in another league to my XJ40!

It's basically a Series I XJS Coupe, although the OPs car is a facelift and is actually way more corrosion resistant than the original!!

Cool number plate Had a double take when I saw this cabriolet which had been shipped from the US Sported some oddball stuff on it for the US market like the third brakelight All this work has cost me an eye watering amount and far more than envisaged. Hindsight and all that but if I knew what I did now it would have been scraped. Still, the AC works better than ever before now the builders expanding foam has been cleared out of the blowers and the dash is now nice and bright after having had an LED upgrade. Steering rack has also been upgraded with Superpro polybushes and the tracking done so it drives really nice too. Great to put a few miles on it again and looking forward to the Pistonheads Sunday Service at Prodrive this weekend
