The time has come to move on this rare branch of the VW family tree.
This is a very basic German Domestic Market model, it has the 1.3 small block petrol engine normally found in a mk2 Polo or mk2 Golf mated to a 4-speed longitudinal gearbox driving the front wheels. It's got only 100,000 kms on it (62,000 miles) so it's quite fresh and the mileage is tiny for a 33 year old car. That's an average of just 3000km/1900 miles per year! It hasn't gone around the clock or anything, I have a history file from Germany that confirms the mileage is genuine.
The car was specified with a couple of optional extras when new, these are the Sienna Red metallic paint and the factory tow bar. In fact the car has never been painted over the years. It still wears its factory paint. I also have a set of period dealer brochures, manuals, handbook etc. These will go with the car along with the history file.
I picked up this B2 Passat in late 2013 way out in West Clare, it belonged to a German chap who was working in Moneypoint Power Station and he had driven it over and back to Germany every year for the TUV test but lived and worked here. I've done a lot of work to the car in the time I've owned it: it's had 4x brand new shocks, 2x new disks in front, new pads, new flexi hoses, new wheel bearings, new radiator, new expansion bottle, new hoses (fuel & water) throughout, new timing belt, new water pump, new head gasket, new head bolts, a good used back box was fitted too. The tyres are all quite good with loads of life left in them. It passed the NCT just there tonight and is cleared until the anniversary of first registration, 15-12-15, over nine months from now. With all the new gear fitted it'll sail the next test too. The only item it failed the first test on was dip headlamp misalignment: I'd left the LHD headlamps in! I replaced the LHD lenses with RHD ones, retested and now have a clean bill of health! Not bad for a 33 year old car!!
