I'm selling my 1988 BMW 320 4dr saloon as I need to free up some funds for my other vehicles and since it's been sitting since the last MOT ran out its the logical choice to go.
This should be considered a project vehicle as it has no MOT and it will need some work to get it through the next one.
It starts, runs and drives fine. The car has done 88k miles so there's plenty of life left in it yet.
Body
It's a 4dr saloon in Zinnober Red (Pink!) with a manual sunroof.
It may be relatively low miles, but it that hasn't stopped it from rusting (it is an 80s BMW after all).
When I bought it has about three inches of water in the passenger foot well. This was due to rust in the scuttle below the corner of the windscreen. I have since had this welded up an it is now watertight. It also had rusty front wings. These have since been replaced with a rust free pair of wings. There was a small hole in the bulkhead below the battery tray. Due to the impossibility of getting at this without removing brake lines, insulation etc, this has been sealed rather than welded up, but it's now water proof.
The other crusty bits are a couple of perforations in the drivers floor pan, the bottoms of the rear quarters behind the the rear arches, and the rear valance. The outer rear arches are pitted but not perforated - however, if I was keeping them car I would have them done.
The car came with black plastic bumpers and wing mirrors. I managed to source a colour matched from bumper which is on the car. Rear bumpers in the correct colour cone up on eBay front time to time but only when I'm too skint to buy them so the black one is still mounted.
The paint is faded. You might need to bring it up with some elbow grease, though the nearside front wing will definitely need a respray as will the rear arches.
The car will need one new headlight lense to get through the MOT.
Interior.
There is currently no carpet in the car and the glove box is disassembled from when the scuttle was welded up. The old carpet was pretty manky due to the water leaks but I have complete, low mileage carpet to go with the car. There is a tear in the rear seat bottom. The good news is that the dash is uncracked, and except for some piping, the driver's seat is in very good condition. I'm going to put the glove box back together over the next week, and if I can get the holes in the driver's floor welded up I will put the carpet in and refit the console.
Engine/gearbox
Engine runs fine and gearbox selects gears as it should.
Suspension/steering/brakes
The car needs a new front wheel bearing. Its passed the last MOT despite it but it has worsened since then. It also needs one and possibly two front shocks. The nearside may have some life left in it
But the offside failed shortly before the car came off the road. Steering is fine as are the brakes but it will need at least one tyre for an MOT.
Spares
I am selling with the car a pair of 51mm front strut assemblies, together with a set of lowering springs and a pair of Bilstein front strut inserts. Basically everything you need to sort the suspension for the MOT.
I also have a set of four 4 14" five spoke alloy wheels (TSWs I think)that I'll let go with the car for an extra £100. They're currently wearing four Kumhos two of which are legal, but will come with a good pair of Michelins as well.
This car is a project. You could probably book an MOT and drive it home and I'll be putting on a new front number plate and a pair of used wipers before it goes should you be so inclined, but bear in mind the wheel bearing may not like it if you have far to go and the dead shock makes handling "interesting".
