I just paid DubModder a visit and see they've added the Scirocco. I got all excited, and then it tells me I have to pay $11 for the priviledge of using the thing! I think not. What on Earth? BusSelecta is still free but hasn't been updated in years.

I know!
Yeah but seriously, would anyone pay $11 just to use DubModder? I certianly wouldn't.
I know I'm tight, but even so.

How dare they charge for their hard work and bandwidth!! They have advertiser, that will pay to advertise on there site. Passing it on to the user is a bit cheeky IMO

BusSelecta is still free but hasn't been updated in years. Bus Selecta hasn't had an update for a while, but Bug selecta got a freshen up last year, a few new models to play with www.volkswarenhaus.de/bugselecta.htm

Happened a couple of weeks back apparently. Their obviously not making enough money from the ads to pay for the bandwidth. Think they're gonna see a big drop-off in earnings from adverts now, and I would have thought very few people would pay 11 dollars for something as simple as this

the great thing about the internet is that so much is available, and lots of it for free
the sad thing is that now people expect the world on a stick, and for free ;D

Something like Dubmodder is difficult to put a revenue stream on,.. If I was them I'd have had companies sponsor parts... so change the wheels and on the right it brings up who sells those wheels and you can just "add to basket" or something... Same with lowering kits, spoilers etc. etc. So you could design your car and then order your bits all in one go Companies linked in this way pay a flat monthly rate so DubModder get a constant income and the companies themselves only need a handful of people each year to use the system to buy their bits to make it worth their while... more complex than the pay once to use it system, but it'll net more income for all involved .... and that ladies and gentlemen is why they pay me the big bucks

Adding Euro-spec bumpers put an advert for a Euro numberplate supplier on the numberplate, an advert appeared for a lighting supplier when you changed the headlights, and so on. It didn't go as far as going straight to the items as you describe, however.
