Overview
Here we have for sale a 1990 MK1 Golf Clipper Convertible Automatic, with 1.8 litre engine and manual choke. This Golf is in excellent condition and the low mileage of the car we believe is supported by how well this car drives.
The car has gone through a thorough detailing and is presented in good, usable condition as a daily driver or a car to be cherished for those sunny weekends.
The details of this car are as follows;
History
First registered on 23rd March 1990, this Golf has had 8 owners in total with the owner that we purchased from having owned the car since January 2012. The owner’s handbooks are present and whilst there is no stamped service book, there are plenty of receipts for work undertaken on the car dating back all the way to 1996.
The car has a little over 88,600 miles on the clock, which is believed to be genuine given the overall condition of the car and the fact that every MOT certificate is present from 1994.
The car now has an MOT until 16th February 2016, is HPI clear and retains its original registration number. There were two advisories on the MOT, referring to OSF tyre worn on the inside edge and the fuel filler neck being rusty. Both items have now been replaced with new.
This car is in great overall condition and viewing is highly recommended.
Body
The bodywork is in very good condition. The Alpine White paint has responded well to a two-stage machine polish and carnauba wax and shines very nicely. There appears to be no rust on the body of the car itself and the areas under the boot carpet and back seat are clean and tidy.
This Golf benefited from a new, black mohair hood in March 2010. The hood was professionally fitted – not to a concours standard but the hood is free of rips and tears and is in good condition. We have just cleaned and re-proofed the roof to help preserve it for years to come.
The hood mechanism is an aftermarket electric/hydraulic unit which has been professionally installed and the system has just had a new pump, ram and fluid. The system has also been bled so it all works as it should.
The paintwork is in excellent condition with a very fresh, clean look to it. There is the odd stone chip but overall there is little to complain about. Any brown/black you see lurking in cavities in the photos is wax, not dirt or rust!
Mechanical/Running gear
As with the bodywork, the mechanicals of this Golf appear to be in excellent condition. The engine sounds sweet with no rattles or knocks and the auto-choke carburettor has previously been replaced with a manual choke Weber unit, so both cold and hot starting is trouble-free.
All service items are now up to date with us having completed an engine flush and oil and oil filter change. The automatic gearbox also performs how it should, with smooth changes and kick-down fully operational. Surprisingly, this auto is rather nippy and it makes for a fun drive.
The car rides and handles well with the rear shocks and springs having been recently replaced.
The car site on the original, white Scala alloys which are in very good condition, bar the odd mark and have locking wheel nuts fitted. One tyre was replaced for new due to the advisory on the MOT, the other three have good tread left.
Interior
The interior is in great condition for the age of the car and has no big holes in the seat bolster material as you may expect, just a small amount of scuffing.
All carpet, seats and trim are in good condition and the parcel shelf is good too, with no speaker holes. Four black carpet mats are fitted which complement the interior and the black tonneau cover is present.
The car also had 3-point rear seat belts professionally fitted by ‘Crazyquiff’s’ a couple of years ago so the car is ideal if you have young children.
Everything works on the car and there is a JVC head unit fitted with AUX and USB ports, along with an electric aerial.
Summary
If you happened to see the last Clipper that we had in stock, you’d know it was one of the best and this one is not far off that in terms of quality. With the low mileage and care it has received over the years, this makes for a sound investment for the next owner.
