Spare a thought for this poor person, a Capri being parked on a section of public highway bothers him so much, imagine what the rest of real life does to him? I honestly shudder to think of the private lives of the kind of people who take it upon themselves to make a fuss about things like this. That's true. My old neighbour used to get REALLY bothered by little things, always hovering around when I was working on my car with the false pretense of being interested. But the schizofrenic guy who lived the other side of him kept him occupied more than I did I think!

It may be slow too, but at least it's old

I've seen a bunch of people overhauling a complete wreck in 60 minutes on TV, so why can't I do it in 3 weeks?

There are a breed of people who think we shouldn't be on the roads in old cars anyway, no matter how well the cars are maintained. They have been brainwashed by the current (and previous) dictatorate, with the idea that old cars are poluting, fuel-guzzling monsters which should be banned from the road. They don't, and will never, get it when you explain to them that actually making their car filled the atmosphere with more polutants than yours ever will in its life. Also they they will never understand that changing their car every three years is at some point in the chain causing needless waste and polution, because they cannot think in that big a picture.

Another one is that someone running an older car by choice tends to take some care in the upkeep of the engine, whereas someone running an old Mondeo into the ground would likely not. Most of the cars I see billowing smoke and looking unhealthy are early to late 90s vehicles!
But obviously it is easier to judge by what the original factory emissions rating is, thus all old cars are evil and we should go to hell.

First question every time when playing with the hydraulics is 'how much that cost mate'.
Responce*: I'm not your mate, and it cost more that you earn in 6 months. Now go away you silly little man.
*OK, so that's what I want to say - usually I just say 'too much', and leave it at that.
Neighbours are great though. We have a 200 year old 6 foot brick wall all around our property, and the neighbours are always interested (in a positive way) in what piece of tat I'm playing with. Live right in the town centre (actually on high street), but I can't see us ever getting any grief for weilding a grinder etc. Suffolk folk are just suitably laid back.

I don't get many negative comments, the worst I have it really is when owner's of non-Japanese vehicles of a similar era, magically ignore and try not to look at me when I'm try to get their attention to give them an approving thumbs up or nod.
Bloody people aye.
Kill the lot of 'em I say.

I own a 2CV. Nasty comments are like water of a duck's back these days! "Oh remind me, what am I paying finance and depreciation every month? Oh, NOTHING!"

I don't really get really nasty comments, just the old "rustbucket" "polluter" "How many miles does that do to the tank" for my BMW at work, bare in mind I work for the 3rd biggest car company in the UK I don't really understand where they're coming from! They get a brand new company car every 6 months and don't understand that their GTis pollute more than mine ever would.
A good line to reply back about gas guzzing and polluting, I read back some time that taking the whole lifespan of a car, the most green car with the smallest carbon footprint is a Jeep Wrangler... Due to simplistic construction methods!

Try taking a Maestro to a track day then, it seems to get all the figures pointing followed by hysterical laughter. Just adds to the fun when you pass them though

I had some spotty yoof in school uniform shout 'Ya moms car!' at me why driving my Dolomite. I turned round and went back to the bus stop and wound the window down. Me: What the fu*k was that ment to be? An insult? Yoof: *confused* (after about 20 seconds) Sorry mate. Me: Waiting for the bus are you? Mom too drunk to drive you to school? Yoof: *looks down at his feet and says nothing* Apart from that, I've had nothing negative about any of the cars I've owned. Oh, apart from my mom... If it isn't under 3 years old and has an blue oval badge, its not a car I have got he liking retro's now though. She approved of the Beetle the other day ;D
