Who are you calling a scruffy oik? You. You wanna fight? LOL Nah, I may be the wrong side of 30, wear a suit for my white collar job and commute to my nice house in a nice village but scratch the surface and I'm a scruffy oik & proud of it.

Imagine you are hocked up to your eyeballs in debt paying for all this "stuff" which the adverts tell you make syou happy and complete and grindfing away in a job you hate in order to make the repayments, then theres some scruffy oik in a 20-30-40 year old care doesn't seem to give a hoot and seems happy... well thats just an insult to all you stand for isn;t it... Who are you calling a scruffy oik? ![:P](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/tongue.png) *puts hand up* Think the majority of RR'ers are scruffy when out in retros. Or is that just the white trash in me coming out ![:-/](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/undecided.png)

Surely having the wee taken by someone in a shiny Lexus confirms that you are driving exactly the right type of car? You wouldnt want approval from that kind of person would you?
Ive had the mick taken plenty of times and yes, it hurts a but but when I think about it who cares?

Its a fear that people don;t buy into the same lifestyle choices which they have kinda followed by default. They are uneasy and feel threatened. Its like the guys giving the gays the hardest time are always the closet homoxesuals themselves or something. I realise I just likened us to all being gay but I am wearing a pink shirt today but bear with me.... Lovely summary - not sure about the gay bit - I used to have a pink shirt ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png)

Good thread, I agree with a lot of what's been said.
I too have had a lot of things said to me about the cars I drive, often from random public but once from somebody who I expected to know a lot better. I now agree with their opinion in a humble and self defacing way, leaving them to go about their way feeling smug and satisfied. If in three weeks time they realise I was taking the p*ss then all the better... But I doubt they ever do, and that's why I really don't care what anybody thinks. It's taken a long time for me to really mean that when I say it, and I can understand why people would be offended by comments. Ahh, bless their blinkered, closed minds... ;D

People must be pretty insecure to openly make fun of other cars.
To be honest, I haven't had much stick which is pretty surprising considering I'm 22 and pootle around in a beige car with white lace seat covers. I tend to just get baffled looks more than anything else.
Suitable response: "Yeah, I wish I had a car like yours, how much do they cost per month again?"

Some kid in a spaxo commented "why'd you drive that POS" my simple reply was "cos I can and cos it seems to p1ss you off". Which is pretty much the way I look at it. best reply ever. ill have to remember that one! I don't get many negative comments from passers by but I do get comments from my "friends". the main focus of their attention at the moment seems to be my trip to the ring at the end of the month. "i reckon youll make it to france if your lucky. hur hur hur" thats funny, I cart them around most weekends and it hasnt broken down yet. in fact, other than a knackered battery, the only time its let me down is when iv flooded it. my fault really, not the cars. my next reply will be along the lines of "how much money do you have on you? oh good you can afford a taxi." cheeky bastards don't even own their own cars! edit: or possibly "i bet i can get to france before you can walk home."

I had a shiny lexus ls400 and it rocked. I'd have another too. Bryn you're right, why care what people think are they doing what you're (as in you the reader of this) doing? Really, it doesn't matter. If you're that bothered call them out on it.

get plenty off odd looks, and the most anoying and common line i get is "how fast that go" to which I ether say as fast as it needs to the national speed limit don't know it goes of the clock "would do clock is only 120" off the spot faster than most modern overwaight car
my favorit reply to the formentiond "give ya a fiver for it" is no this isent a monthly payment item like every thing in your life, I actualy own everything in my poseshion.
and to the down right rude that say why drive that type comments I say at least its british or beacause its tax free and i can fix it so no garage bill EVER

Lets reclaim the streets,
Walk up to the next Kia driver you see and say "your car was made by people who eat dogs, you sick sick bastrd"
Walk up to the next Golk Mk3 driver you see and say "you do know this was the most unreliable car VW ever made don't you? Total rubbish. More recalls than anything else they made. JD Powers survey flopper as well, you do? Don't you? Don't you Don't you?" You should resist the temptation to break into the Pussy Cat Dolls at this point, but feel free to follow them down the street refusing to shut up "absolutely terrible, you know that don't you"
Next 3 Ford Ka owners you spot ask them "how many wishbone bushes have you had done on this then, eh eh eh eh eh, wishbone bushes, eh eh eh eh? Bet you must ave shares in the company that makes wishbone bushes, eh? eh? eh?"
Next Prius owner you spot say "I heard that the batteries in these are really environmentally friendly, they kill baby seals or something to make them. Don't they only last like a year as well, and cost like a million pounds to replace, each?" as they drive off yell "Baby seal killer" at the top of your lungs until arrested.
