Ive been looking to buy a car that has a cherished plate. Ive emailed a numberplate valuation company and they got back to me saying the plate is worth a bit and if they sold it on my behalf I would get £600 back after they had taken their cut. The cars being offered for quite a bit less than £600, so I could be quids in. Question is, can I rely on their word? The plate is nothing special from what I can see and £600 seems alot for what it is. Am I about to be stuffed? Anybody got any experiences they wish to share?

Humm, thats what I thought. Ive been on the DVLA website ad you can get a very similar plate for £350 including transfer fee.
Maybe the numberplate brokers are just looking to swell their books by talking b0llocks.

Ive had a plate for sale with a dealer for years never heared a thing. Ive bought one as well as swaped a few onto diffrenrt cars.It all depends what the plate is? Pre 63 age less are normally worth more unless it spells a word or name. Firms always add a bit on. Ive put mine on E-bay a couple of times but no luck selling it.

I had N30 OGM. Regtransfers told me it was worth 750 quid as it could bee altered to N300 GM. Nothing, zilch, nil, nada, zip! Not one enquiry.

Registration plate brokers just like to have loads and loads of plates on their books to look successful. The best way to gauge how much a plate is worth is to see how much they'll pay outright, if it's a decent plate then they'll buy it off you. It's a fairly average reg that doesn't spell much they'll be more than willing to sell it for you, but they won't want to buy it themselves.
I was offered £450 for my B**KPN plate on the 'rocco, for them to sell it for me. They didn't want to buy it though, so I'd reckon it was worth b'gger all.

Number plates in the UK are generally a pile of poo, very few look like what they are meant to signify.
I suspect that is why the government ar not letting us have propper alpha-numerical plates where letters all have numeric value. The plate industry and a large part of the DVLA's income would colapse overnight.
This ia a plate with meaning (re-post.)

Look on ebay and see how much plates go for with
- no reserve and 99p starts
or BIN's or high starting prices (For these you might be watching listing get re-listed)

There's a world of difference between the insurance valuation (how much you have to pay to get it back) and how much someone else would pay you for it.

I find it really funny how people pay huge fees for something that is not quite right - i.e. you have to squint or use imagination...
I would never subscribe to such a rediculous waste of money.
Oh, wait. Yes I did...
