I feel somewhat bad that my first post on retrorides is this one, but I've lurked over the years and not had much to say.
Right now I have a small unit near Swanley that was supposed to end all my problems working on my stuff, and has just resulted in me having a small unit full of machine tools (I'm a hobby machinist, have a lathe and mill and various other things) that I can't fit a car into thanks to the landlord dropping containers in front of the doors not long after I moved in.
All my cars are big... like American big (Chevy Camaro + Tahoe), and so negotiating them around a 90º turn through some British sized double doors to fit into a 350sq ft workshop was never gonna end well.
So, I'm in the market for a new place, and it seems like unless I'm willing to drive an hour and 20 minutes from here to Essex, or all the way to Dover/Folkstone, there's basically nothing that fits my criteria unless I up my budget significantly (which becomes dubious pretty fast due to rates and whatnot).
I was looking for ~600sq ft with roller doors and a high roof, with a max rent of £650/month, but everything I've found hasn't wanted hobby engineer/car enthusiast type people due to noise concerns, or has already been rented by the time I've discovered the ad for it. Right now, it seems like every commercial property that I could afford in Kent has been taken.
I figured that maybe if I pair up with some other like minded people, we can find something a bit bigger where we'll all have space to work on our stuff. Is anyone else interested in such a thing? Ideally, I'm thinking 1000+ sq ft, car lift, machine tools, somewhere quiet and out of the way.
I tried looking into doing something similar last year with some friends, but they all had much lower rent expectations for the amount of space they'd want so it didn't really work out - hence me moving into a tiny place on my own.
I live in Orpington and I'm willing to drive up to 45 minutes or so to get to the place, so basically east sussex/west kent.
So would anyone be into joining forces and getting a bigger place, or maybe know of something around the size I was looking for that I could rent? I'm getting pretty desperate as I'm wasting money every single month on a place I can't use, and rapidly tiring of laying in my muddy driveway under cars.
