Right chaps, anyone got any experience with these? Might be going to have a look at one tomorrow just wondering if anyone have pointers of what to look for. (No mocking, it's cheap lol) So far I have managed to find a guide to checking the rear diff hanger spot welds, the engine in it is a M52/TU so doesnt have the nikasil issue but it does have a twin Vanos, cant find a clear guide to what I need to listen/look for to see if the Vanos is fubur. I know this one left the factory with a LSD to Obviously need to check for rust but where do these go? Similar place to E36's? Any help would be appreciated

If you haven't already check out zroadster.org/articles/?category=bmw-z3-wiki&id=274The buyers guide and maintenace/repair guides are vey good.(paricular in relation to the vanos issue etc) The Guys on the forum there know their stuff and are very helpful. There was a buying guide in March 14 Practical classics and Classic and Sports Car did a guide in 2008. If you PM me your e-mail i'll do some scans for you if they aren't on line, both of these these have the spots to look for etc. I'm running around in a early LHD 98 2.8 which hasn't got the dual vanos unit so not really too up on those issues. The only issues i really have had with a slightly tempremental alarm, but cleaning all of the earths has seemed to cure this (and improved the starting)but thats more due to the length of time this one spent in a garage... Jp ps. I'd also hope that all of the above have had their welding checked as they can be a bit 'weakend' by lowering...

Cracked spot welds & roof leafing around the side windows. Bodywork was mint but I walked away. The price? £1100 for a 1999 T plate!

Thats a shame probably best though, it looks rather an 'involved' repair.... The side window leak is either a blocked channel within the rubber (can be fixed with a prod of a cable tie and sealent...) or a tweak inwards on the door striker to allow for the rubber getting old...(worked for me...) as the rubber is handily NLA from BMW, but have heard that the rubber reviver products work well for this. Found this to be quite usefull as well www.bimmerfest.com/forums/archive/index.php/t-391945.htmlJp

Some good advice here. These are becoming cheaper by the dozen and 1100 quid for a T plate....even with spot welding issues is a good price. But there is bound to be a better one for a bit more money.
