After playing around with the odd kitcar I was wanting to get my teeth into something without so much fibreglass, I was hankering after a winter project something with some rust so I could brush the dust off the trusty mig and retire into my man cave, after a lot of looking around I ended up with this
My plans are modified classic, keeping it standard outside with an upgrade on the running gear not sure on what engine yet was thinking zetec as my kit cars have all had the zetec treatment but also may go mx5 route
and in its winter home
first thing was to strip front end of and then I knocked a roll over spit just using what I had to hand, I used a engine stand for the rear end, not the best but works spot on so well chuffed
Next was to star tackling the rust originally didn't look too bad but once on the spit as always it was a different story
plus a couple of hole in the boot floor and under the front wheel arches and all four corner jacking points
I've done quite a lot already so will post some more pics later on to update the thread cheers

Blimey, that is great to see... As a Toledo owner myself I love these and yours is looking great in 2-door form with the short bumpers... Lovely! There is lots you can do to make this into a cracking little 'sleeper' and I really do look forward to seeing your progress. A Zetec in there would be just wonderful...!!! I'd recommend you join the great Triumph Dolomite Forum ( forum.triumphdolomite.co.uk/ ) as those super helpful folks will do all they can to help you in any way they can. Anyhow, please do keep us posted on what you get up to and don't forget to add loads of lovely pictures! Good luck with the project...

Hi not been around for a while, I've just about got all the welding done, knocked a electrolysis bath up to de-rust all the sub-frame and suspension components, bought a sand blaster to finish them off and finally got round to using a DIY powder coating kit I've bought with a home made oven and various other cooking devices to cure the powder, just in process of poly bushing front sub-frame then on to the all important engine transplant zetec or mx5 both of which I have to hand, decisions decisions but for now I have to get my rusty mk6 transit roadworthy as I need it for work
Some of the work completed
Got a dimple die to make up the inner strengthener
Some parts I couldn't make
The electrolysis bath, its just a tub with some soda crystals and a laptop charger works really well tho
Before and after
The rusty bits
and after a bath and sandblasted
Don't tell the miss's
And after powder coating
Till next time

Horseshoes and stirrups.... is that to keep on SWMBO's good side? They look good, car parts do as well.

Great work. Wish my subframe and suspension was that clean! Zetec will make it interesting! These cars are worth the effort, although I am slightly biased I suppose.

You've done some amazing work with the car so far, but, as you've done so much why not make it as original as possible so why change the engine?

Well, why not change the engine but keep everything looking standard on the outside as I would? Each to their own, right?
Top bombing on this, loving the DIY stripping and powder coating, must really help keep costs down.
