	Chaps, Looking to paint the centres on some split rims I have. Bolts have all been undone and I have tried knocking the centre out with a fat block of wood and a mallet but its having none of it. Looks like the band and the centre have an interference fit. Do I need to heat the band up before I can smack the centre out with the lump of wood /mallet? Or would a press be needed? How has everyone else done it? Obviously don't want to damage the rim. Cheers James

	hit it with something hard but non marking (thermoplastic mallets are best) so it 'rings'. this will help seperate it.

	are you sure its not sandwiched between the 2 rims? They are normaly stck quite solid because of corrosion and people dorbing loads of unessicary sealer on them. Big blow with a ammer and some wood should sort it tho.

Problem is trying to get the mallet down tthrough the hoop to get a good strike - hence why I have used the rubber mallet and block of wood. I will get a wide section of wood to help spread the force from the hammer. are you sure its not sandwiched between the 2 rims? Deffo not sandwiched, cant see anything but (hidden corrosion / interferance) holding it in. Cheers for the responses guys, at least I know I am on the right track. Stop hammer time!
