Well today I took the wife's focus for an MOT and went and pressed out the duff new wheel bearing for another one. Pain in the bum getting the inner race off the drive flange, good job the nice mot place let me loose on thier vice and grinders Also managed to pickup a brand new Mk1 Allegro Grille surround and center, these are the best looking I think, not easy to find though. Worst thing that happened this week though 50mph winds and me being a dumbass! My car tent was slightly lifting at one corner due to a bit of foam being wedged under it. So I lifted it to try and get it, big mistake - wind got under the tent and it went about 15 foot high! I held onto the back end of it so the front of it came down and attacked the car. Lost a mirror and the wind and door are battered! The door was dented anyway and the wing is rotten at the front. Not sure now if I should get a fiberglass wing or repair this one!

i hear fibreglass stuff is a curse word to fit, so if it's an easy repair i'd stick with that =)

Well I don't plan on painting the whole car but I do want to plate over the filler cap etc further down the line. Maybe I should put some clear coat over the scars to stop them rusting and leave it at that I don't want a mint car or it won't be fun, was properly annoyed though. My build plan is still make a curse word car go well and be usable on the track and to work most summer days. Not to be too worried about gravel or oil barrels, used to hit them all the time drifting my old supra lol. Turbos and major performance mods are out of the reach of my pocket, as is a full respray! Oh well, got my rear firewall all mocked up the other day, need to get some ally sheet to cover the parcel shelf due to extra rear speaker holes and tiger seal it all, hopefully keeping the fuel in the boot! The tank has a roll over valve in the top and the breather goes out under the boot with a little filter on it.

Shame about the damage, lucky it wasn't a broken windscreen or something though.
Probably best to just paint the bits you repair and finish with a colour as close as you can get, the weather isn't any good at the moment to paint much anyway unless you can get it indoors. Are any repair panels available from the owners club for the front wings ?

Yeah could have been much worse, it could have gone next door and attacked expensive cars!
The sidelight recess could be a little tricky to repair, but then cutting the wing off could also create a lot more work but at least it would be done right. On the other hand I will have to hunt for repair panels, the tent scratches could just be filled and sanded easily enough.
Fiberglass wings are only £70 and metal ones are rare new. Will have to see what my welder thinks would be the best route, the inner wings want reinforcing a fair bit and that might be easier with the wing off, starting going this deep could create a lot more work though, I don't want to be digging under the sill covers right now, scary!

A bit more done recently, nothing major. Have been wondering about fitting bigger discs than the mgf 240mm, tried some Honda 282mm discs, um shame the caliper has to go in there too! Test fitted up the 240mm setup in 14" wheels, at least thats all good. Started cutting up a Rover 200 gear linkage, the stabilser bar will just shorten but the selector rod will need a mod just behind the gearbox, not difficult though. Modifield the lower rear mgf engine mount to compensate for the bracket being welded to the subframe 20mm out! My ali seats now have mounts welded on Will have to build up the drivers subframe once I get the steering column mounted. Also picked up a slim rad fan that fits the mgf rad. Removing horrid sound proofing (wish I hadn't started) Co2 fire extinguisher make a good job of freezing it though!

This is awesome! just read it start to finish, I've long said that Allegros look awesome with a bit of drop and some decent wheels, well done for keeping it stock ish on the outside, that is going to draw some serious WTF looks. Looking forward to more!

Thanks dude I hope you didn't get too board reading it all! I would say I'm about at the half way point now, everything pretty much fits together other than the Metro front arb is going to take some more work. It's been a year now since I pulled the original engine out, seems like forever. Previously I have built a Mk3 Supra drift car, used to take it down to Santa pod etc was great fun. That was just a half cage, lots and lots of lightening, welded diff, coilovers and a completely redone brake system with a hydraulic one on the rear line. This Allegro will be as far as I've ever gone so learning a few new skills on the way, just hoping it doesn't handle like a complete turd! I'm sure it'll do good burn outs though!

If you see the original Harris Mann design it looks really good, basically a similar shape but lower bonnet line, I reckon lowering it and with some clever graphics you could get it looking much closer to the original design.

Yeah more like a smaller princess. I want to keep the curse word car factor though, when I had it on the road the amount of people I heard say, worst car ever made etc they weren't too far off lol just seeing if I can do a better job and if it gets to 60 in less than 6 seconds that would certainly surprise a few It won't be a sleeper but won't be changed much on the exterior other than wheels. On the hunt for a reasonable price billet flywheel at the moment. I can't afford to be messing with turbos etc but might as well make to most of the vvc.

having an inboard single piston caliper (like those in your picture) actually help for clearance, say compared to a 4 pot. while the 4 pot hug the disk closer and you can fit relatively large rotor, they have two pistons plus casting between the disk and the back of the wheel, so you run into interference issues with the back of the spokes
fairly irrelevant i know but vauxhall used 256mm disks and cast caliper under 14s with plenty of space. same wheels will take 280 disk and midilite 4 pot caliper, but have to use wheel spacers due to above comment.

Have been looking at the talon 6 pots but they are about £700! Also there is an option to use Rover 200 calipers and 260mm disks, brackets from Talon.
Can't do spacers really as I'm on the limit at the moment.
I'll put the 240mm setup on and see how they go, pedal box has no servo as going for dual masters with bias bar I could put a remote servo on the front line I suppose if it's too much effort on the pedal. Rear drums will probably explode if it goes over 50mph!
