Enjoying the progress mate, I know the guy who owns the yellow Mk1 in that picture. The Mk1 grilles are very difficult to find but if your on FB try the Allegro Appreciation Society and they may be able to help.

Thanks for that, will have a look on fb.
I will try and make my own grille but if it looks pants it will be a mk1 grill lol
Have the brand new grill surround so just a matter of trying different mesh to see what looks acceptable.
Just been and taken the mgf hubs and disks for a quote to get them redrilled, £40 bargain Going to be running 15 6J et45 wheels, probably vw bbs items

Couple more bits back today, rebuilt engine mount subframe arm. Bottom of the gearbox arm was totally rotten so that got repaired. Bearings and top ball joints pulled, they were a huge pain and had to be heated a lot! Inner roller bearings pulled from the top arms, ordered some new ones. Scrap pile is growing!

Started on the rear subframe mounts, the frame needs lowering by about 5mm at the moment so they need redoing partly. The Allegro steering rack is bolted to the lower bulkhead but if I line up the mgf rack U clamp mounting holes with the Allegro rack it almost matches so bump steer from the geometry should be limited.

Sweeet bookmarked, my mate a collage had an estate in that shade of blue, driving home one evening the front wheel tryed to overtake the rest of the car, but it was back the next day. Dan Reminds me of that old playground joke "What's the safest car in the world?" "An Austin - because if a wheel falls off, A Leg Grows" Groan.

Lol, well for the moment I'm using the stock rear drums and suspension, just getting them redrilled to 100x4
Have visions of a rear wheel overtaking me !

Great work! Looking good so far.
One thought though, the mounting tabs for the subframe look as if they want some gussets and triangulation adding?
keep it going going, great to see what you are doing to the car!

Yeah they need a little more work, ran out of 3mm plate! They will get some small gussets behind them and also up to the lower bulkhead, that's rather thin though so will need some webbing.
Just awesome to have it bolted in final place, so sick of lifting it in and out!
Metro gti anti roll bar turned up today, looks like a winner so will have to make mounts for that too.
Plan is full roll cage too.
