Threw all the lights on, first test for clearance - looks like the mgf rad was made for the Allegro Need to get another dust cover boot thing, these later lights use H4 bulbs

Starting to look a bit more like a car for the first time in a long time. Chucked the doors back on, the rears are good but the fronts need shimming and came from a later car. On a good note though the door hinge pin that I had a fight with seems well and the window winders even look like they might clear the roll cage, having to open the door to roll the window down could have been annoying! Now to build it back up, I'm far more practiced at taking things apart though.

Which grill are you going to use ? Early vertical one ?
Looking better than new.

the honeycomb grill would look good on this, tie in with the wheels quite well. Mind you, you could use anything on this and it will still be mighty cool.

Not 100% sure yet, I do love the mk1 vertical grill and I have a brand new one. Only thing is I was looking at one the other day vs an Equipe grill together, the horizontal one gives the impression that the car is much wider so I may have to order one. These are plastic so lighter and I could paint the center stripe orange Honeycomb ones are ok but I prefer the earlier styles, there is an early horizontal one as well.

without the plastic bottom valence, mk1 golf splitter instead. I am tempted to powercoat some steel bumpers black though

I think the equipe grill looks diffrent, if its lighter then what more reson do you need. Added power to weight ratio. I used my grill to reduce the flow of air in to the engine bay as i was getting front end lift at 70ish. Dan

It's good to see progress has started on this again.
Have fun with the car!

Yes lighter and it doesn't need some little L brackets that I'm missing so might be a winner, I do like the Mk1 vertical type though but I guess I have both options, I do have a honeycomb as well somewhere.
Progress never really stopped on it, just things take ages and don't look like I've done much!

...errrm, won't two holes for speakers mean the boot isn't "sealed" anymore ?
Great build by the way

Ha, I may build separate boxes under the speakers yet. The boot is defiantly now a separate compartment though, the original parcelshelf is cardboard so the metal panels will give those all important few moments firewall should the tank ever have a 'problem'.

If you box the speakers in, they should sound better than the current setup with them breathing in to the boot space (will also prevent the steel panel in place of the seat back from resonating as much to) Looks lovely in the blue paint now though, keep up the good work

Car is looking good, great work. I found some old motor show stuff in a box including Allegro brochures, I had to scan the 1750 Sport, its almost a factory sleeper.

I've been told the twin carb 1750 could outrun an xr3i at the lights back in the day.

I've been told the twin carb 1750 could outrun an xr3i at the lights back in the day. My mate Simon had a 1750 TC back in ‘86. With its 5-speed box, and that engine, it was certainly quicker than anything else our contemporaries (as 17-year olds) had at the time. It was a very different beast to the “normal” Allegro, with the 1098 or 1275 A-series. I had a single-carb 1500 for a bit and that was much nicer than I expected it to be, but very rotten.
