Firstly if you don’t know about the mechanical differences between a uk mk2 mx5 and a J one read up – the engine revs higher, the gear ratios are shorter and the locking diff is awesome - with a set of track tyres they will set competitive laptimes around twisty tracks - what this one was originally destined for but a mate sold me his track car for a price i couldn't refuse
This car was imported in 2001 and has had 4 owners since. Its been registered as a 1.8 mx5 (uk base model). It has everything: ABS, Remote central locking, airbags, Alarm, immobiliser, DAB digital radio, uprated speakers, heated leather seats, Nardi torino leather steering wheel (slightly smaller than the UK one), 6 speed gearbox, 3.909 ratio Torsen type 2 LSD, Yellow Bilstein suspension (firmer and better damped than the uk cars) Aircon (probably needs gassing)
This one also benefits from:
NO ROT – none chassis rails are fine, sills are spot on (I’ve even taken a magnet to them)
K&N Airfilter
J twin exit exhaust – not loud at all just slightly sportier
Mazdaspeed headlight covers
Chrome mesh Grill
Cobra Cat 1 alarm and Immobaliser
15x7 Alloy wheels from MX5 california special edition
Unknown J spoiler
S2000 start button (disconnected)
Heated glass rear window
Mohair roof
JDM Roaster document holder behind the passenger seat (removable)
JDM Roaster boot liner (saw one for sale for over £100 last week)
Pioneer DAB digital radio / CD player
Expensive speakers that sound damn good
Factory mazda windblocker
4 nearly new Firestone Turanza tyres
New Battery as in since Christmas
Cambelt in 2012 – other recent service history along with about 10 MOTs
Less good points:
There is some surface rust in the engine bay (which hasn’t been cleaned to hide anything)
Some repairable bolster wear on the drivers seat (no holes or rips)
Mildew on the mohair roof – will clean off
Paint work – car looks awesome from 6 feet but up close you can see it has had some 7/10 work
Wheels are tatty
