It is/was a Belgian cigarette brand, and the Belgian race/rally team called Bastos Racing Team (BRT) existed for 25 years up untill they stopped in 2004, most of these pics are from that team. They won 24h of Francorchamps 9 times, Belgian rally title 7 times, European Rally Championship 2 times, There is a Californian Bastos team that rose some years after the original team, but the Camaro can be a replica or restored car from the original team from 1980. The team raced with FINA as sponsor also and BMW cars a lot, but like the pics show they had lots of different cars over time.

Thanks for the info. It helps that they span the era which encapsulates some of my favourite ever cars. Those E30's and Cosworths are awesome. How about the mk2 Astra Dakar car for a curve ball though? Amazing stuff.

The Dakar Kadett Es used NA Manta 400 engines, though both cars retired as Opel had brought along regular gravel dampers from the Manta WRC programme. One of these was eventually sold to John Welch in the late '80s, he sleeved the 2.4 down to 2.1, then fitted an Arrows F1 turbo. Power was around the 700bhp figure, though of course he could always wind the boost up for qualifying.
