So, having already bought the Galant earlier this week, look what I picked up tonight: And it was so local, the bike was how I got there! Less than two miles from my place, idyllic ride through the lanes to get there (contrast with Monday's mission). Chap selling it got it from a family friend in Basildon, hence me never having seen it round before. Accord 1.8EXR, top-spec model at the time with ABS, AC, PAS, EW, ESR and cruise. As luck would have it, what I sold the red Accord 3dr for yesterday exactly covered the purchase of this and the Galant ;D Proper OAP owner, 88 and stopped driving, T&T until end July so it will keep me retro-ish while I get the Galant sorted and the C210's brakes seen to. Was getting worried I'd have nothing suitable for the Norfolk meet coming up on Tuesday...

Never realised it at the time but the Rover 213 looks just like a scaled down version of this - I know the Ballade should look even more so with the black bumpers and that but somehow this reminds me more of the Rover version. Top purchase anyway.

Of course, classy car I tell you. Not cheap though back in the day, over £9k in 1985 when Charmant 1300LE would have been about five-and-a-half. Did slightly undercut Sierra Ghia and Cavalier CD though, according to my old Parkers guide.

Will you never learn Mr SL? Great purchase but why? Charlie I did kind of wonder that, briefly thought how much simpler life would be and that the small amount of cash it cost could have gone towards getting the Galant sorted or rebuilt calipers for the C210. But, it's an Accord and I like them a lot, and think how I'd have felt in 10 years' time knowing I could have bought one dirt-cheap only minutes from me. It's better this way. Anyway, like I said I need something to get me to Tuesday's R-R meet-up

Did slightly undercut Sierra Ghia and Cavalier CD though, according to my old Parkers guide. Mmm, Hondas always seemed to command a premium compared to their Japanese rivals. And why not, at the time they were truly modern cars, packed with electronics, front wheel drive and usually fuel injection! 1980s truly were the peak for Honda I reckon. The Charmant was a dinosaur compared, though a bargain if you wanted a well-built "traditional style" car, a bit like what they said about the Compagno! What's the round gauge on the dash next to the heater vents?

What's the round gauge on the dash next to the heater vents? A temperature gauge or a gauge to measure how many hours it'll last if it doesn't get schultz'd!

Bit complex for that isn't it? Just looking at it, it has tons of buttons. "MULTI FLOW"! I could spend about 3 hours in that just playing with all the buttons to see what they do. What about the button above it? Central locking? Looks a bit like a padlock. Lots of horn buttons too! And a mysterious slider sort of thing near the gearknob!

Does the Tom Cruise control work then? Is it as ridiculously hard to switch on while driving as it is in a Galant? (completely invisble-to-the-driver switch, feels the same whether activated or deactivated, lights up red when its on and green when its off)

Noice, but on a strange note - krooz, a/c and manual choke/no injecshun? 'The hell? From experience with the other one, the carb works so well that injection was probably viewed as unnecessary complexity, for this market at least. About the buttons, multiflow gently wafts some ait through the longitudinal slots runing right across the fascia, the extra gauge is just for temperature, and the button above that is (I think) running a check on warning lights. Elsewhere there's the headlamp wash/wipe and electric aerial, then there are service indicators inside the gauge cluster. I feel a bit like a 10-year old did in the early days of digital watches, listing all the spurious functions. Yes, cruise does work, though of very limited us round these parts. I did try it on the long straight road down the common, but as to whether it's user-friendly I can't comment. First time I've had it in anything on the road, even the luxo-barge 300Cs didn't get it. Even though they're both facelift models, amazing how different it loks to the 3dr with lots of chrome and that upright front end. I've got someone on autoshite potentially interested, and Hadrian list panels for these (more than they do for 3dr) so it may have a future after my shocking period of neglectful ownership.

Amazing!! Dom has lined me up with one of these for my daily. Now I'm back from Japan I can start the ball rolling again, mine will need a little work to make it back on the road but hopefully nothing major. BTW I'm all set for the norfolk meet this time No Sapporo but I have picked up something retroish for the other half that will make it there this time WOOT!!

Excellent purchase Were there three 2 facelifts of this model, I'm confused? Was xbo11ox's blue Accord the first model, your red one the first facelift and this is the second facelift?
