To cut a long story short, the bad voices have started in my head again. I've got a litre of satin black down the workshop and i'm thinking of giving the cortina a quick blow over. The last thing i want to do is get halfway and run out, so, paint experts, will a litre of celly mixed 50/50 cover a cortina, or am i dreaming. Thanyouverymuch.

It will take precisely 10% more paint than you actually have available. You will only discover this fact at 4.29pm on a Sunday afternoon.
This is Pog's 4th Law of auto-molestation.

It'll be enough..... ....until it reacts with the old paint and you have to start over.

It'll be enough..... ....until it reacts with the old paint and you have to start over. I had that last weekend, spent a good few hours prepping the bumper and grill, got them in primer, went back a few days later to topcoat them and the whole lot reacted. Spent the rest of the day stripping it all back to bare metal.

If this is any help whatsoever, and I doubt it will be, I managed to get a beautiful, mirror smooth finish on an Escort wing using only 1/3 of a small, 500ml aerosol of radiant red.
Lets say one tin for both wings, 2 tins for the bonnet, 4 tins for the roof, 6 more tins for the doors and back wings, 2 more tins for the boot - thats 15 small aerosols, £2.49 each from Payless or any good motor accessory store - Thats £40 worth of paint in a colour of your choice, no spray booths, no mixing, just wait for a sunny day, plenty of rubbing down, mask it off and take a flyer at it!
Its a stupid idea, but that Escort wing turned out so well it got me thinking, I bet with the right amount of prep and cutting back afterwards you could get lucky and get a nice paint job with no fancy equipment or facilities and £50 worth of materials.
Just thought you might like the point of view of someone who doesnt really know what he`s talking about. I have had some good results with aerosols lately, though. don't know if they're getting better or what.

I am not an expert but I would have thought you would want closer to 3 litres as a minimum. Try to start it from the front and keep both sides equal that way when you run out you can say you intended to do that

Use it and all your reaction worries will disappear and only £13 a litre so you can't afford not to.

Try to start it from the front and keep both sides equal that way when you run out you can say you intended to do that If you're using 2k paint, you'll be mixing it 2 : 1 with hardner and then 10% thinners so 2 litres will actually give you 3.3 litres of sprayable material which will easily enough with some to spare i'd have thought. That's about 50 quids worth i think......bargain

But unfortunately Padre Dick has only got cellulose so I think he is gonna struggle, unless he is gonna redo his urban cam I have used nearly 1.5 litre of celly doing the bonnet and wing on my BMW this morning, admittedly the overspray has covered most of the garage as well so I reckon if I had aimed the gun at the car I could have halfed what I used
