Up for sale is my mams 1995 Citroen ZX 1.9 Diesel automatic 5 door hatchback.
Plus points..... Loads of history, 134000 miles, 40mpg, June mot, power steering, central locking, electric sunroof, electric mirror, electric windows front and rear, digital clock, drivers airbag, tilting steering column, excellent interior with no holes or tears, good tyres/brakes/exhaust.
over £300 just been spent on it (rear shockers etc)
The car does have its faults....
1: The heater has stopped working 2: There is a dent in the offside rear door, but a replacement door in the same colour is included 3: The roof and tailgate are losing their Laquer badly 4: The back lighting on the dash doesn't work 5: The central locking only works for three doors and the hatch
Located in North Shields, which is close to Newcastle upon Tyne, and within 2 miles of the A19.

What's the issue with the heater, does it not blow hot or not blow at all.

It doesn't blow hot air, just cold.

looks like the cold heater might be due to the head gasket, not sure though, but down to £200 anyway.

Just had a friend look at this for me and he suspects the thermostat isn't opening.
Plus - down to £175.

Took the stat out today, and still no heater, so either the head gasket or a major case of trapped air. Would make a great project though, and still drivable

Jesus christ, what a lot of bickering over a £150 car with MOT.
Anyway, the cooling system on these is an absolute curse word to bleed properly. Chances are it's got an age-related issue AND needs bleeding - I had everyone under the sun tell me our 1.9D had a blown head gasket, and in the end it was just a sludged up radiator meaning bad circulation then incorrect bleeding resulting in constant airlocks. The trick is to make a header tank setup - IIRC we used a 2l bottle and filled it right up whilst bleeding the matrix screw.
OBV: "I would have this off you like a shot if you weren't at the far end of the country when I've no time to sort logistics". Wish I'd seen it when it was first posted.

IMHO try filling up the header tank to the filler neck part, right to the very top. At this very point (whilst being ready to keep the header tank topped up to the filler neck) undo the heater matrix bleed screw and the air should come out. Even on my BMW (with the heater hose this time) it cured the airlock.
On many Pugs this procedure has served me well (including a 106 which had no heater and I suspect was sold due to a misdiagnosed HG (I went on to drive the car for 2 years after this).
Have a bump.

Thanks for the bump, but the car doesn't have a header tank, just a load of bleed screws and a radiator cap that are lower than the highest hoses, so airlocks are guaranteed. Also my spare time is spent on her latest car, so no time to persevere with the ZX.......

A good way to do it is to get the front wheels on ramps or jack the front end, that helps.
