Up for sale is my recently acquired Rover SD1 project. I bought this as I love the marque but I seriously have too many projects, a new business and no time at all. Therefore I want to try and pass this on to someone who will actually do something with it...I've had it for over a month and only seen it once!
There's not much to say about this car, the previous owner to me found it in storage in a garage, where it had been stood for a long time. Although it has spots of surface rust on it the body actually seems very solid. The sills, arches etc have no filler in them, and no major corrosion. The front windscreen panel, strut tops, boot floor corners and rear axle trailing arm mount all seem good too. Doors are savable although I'd probably replace them in time. They look good for now but will require work.
The interior is quite nice, needs a good clean at the moment but ok. The dash top is warped as usual and the D-post trims are worn. The headlining is also sagging slightly. These are all usual SD1 things and quite easily sorted. Carpets/door cards and seats are all lovely though.
Mechanically wise, the car is complete minus it's head and cam carrier. I cannot vouch for any of the suspension and brakes, they'd want looking at to ensure they were good before it hits the road again. I wondered about the state of the engine to start with as it's been without it's head for a while, however under the layers of dirt it seems ok. One of the pistons has a mark in the CROWN from where I presume a valve hit it. The engine is in my opinion not dead and would go again.
I have no history for the car, and unfortunately no keys. I do have a logbook though.
I don't want to mention V8...but this car would make a good base for an engine swap. If I could keep it, I'd leave it 6-cylinder though as they're rare now and quite a cool car. I've never even owned a V8 SD1 and I keep buying them...so they must be alright!
