Hi all, now you may have to bear with me as I'm new to this personalised plate malarkey.. I've got a Saab which I bought with personalised plates already fitted (T44 ERO, spells AERO innit) to be honest I've never been a massive fan of personalised plates so I wouldn't be averse to earning a bit of extra moneys from selling them I've had a look at the DVLA site but only got a few answers So from my understanding, to sell the plates, I'd have to pay £105 to put them on retention first? (seems a bit steep) Has anyone on here done this? Is the whole process relatively straightforward after the forms have been sent off? Also how long does it take from the plates being put on retention to getting the original reg back? As I can't really afford to have the car off the road for a couple of weeks waiting for a new reg number Cheers in advance Pic of the car in question for your trouble

£105 for one years retention. £25 a year to retain it, thereafter.
Drive the car whilst waiting for DVLA to issue replacement number, which may/ may not be the original. If you want the original , be nice, tell them what the previous number was and that the windows were security etched with that reg. usually does it.
Both numbers will remain live for around a fortnight, to give you time to get new plates made/ fitted, do the car doesn't have to come off road it shows on Police PNC as a recent transfer, so there will be no issues.
Don't forget to tell Insurers ( admin fee may be payable) to keep it ANPR green.
Once on retention, it's yours to trade. Price/ value is for you to determine, but don't be over optimistic.
Once sold you will need to amend the Certificate (£25)to add the purchasers name as Nominee.( not Grantor)

Thanks very much for that, that makes things much clearer Now I need to work out if the potential gain of selling the plate is worth the effort of doing it..

To be honest I doubt there would be much call for that plate other than to a fellow saab owner.

It could be worth a few quid to mkiv supra owners who have the later model aero-top, possibly even with a T4 turbo fitted.

That was mostly my thinking got to be a bigger market than just some random initials haha It could be worth a few quid to mkiv supra owners who have the later model aero-top, possibly even with a T4 turbo fitted. I hadn't thought of that to be honest but its a shout, albeit a rare one

not forgetting 4th generation volkswagen transporter owners who like bubbly chocolate, obviously.
its certainly not the worst personal plate ive seen, it does conceivably read as a word without judicous random application of mounting bolts, which is a lot more than some....

Nothing to stop you advertising the plate before applying for retension/transfer.
Friend of mine sold a plate through an agent (for about £1k), he had it listed for over a year while it was still on his car being driven, then once a buyer was found, did the transfer.
So if you can't find a buyer you incur no costs.
