So, the 190E isn't great for towing, I fancy a change so I'm looking at a Pajero or Shogun for a daily, mk2 ideally but would consider a mk1. Has anyone owned one? They seem very cheap for a huge diesel truck with lots of toys... - What's MPG like? Will they run on veg oil? - Are Pajeros hard to insure? - Any common problems I should look for? - How capable off road? Wouldn't mind doing some light green laning, nothing hardcore. Pajero made it to the top! (In Pilanesberg Nature Reserve) by johan strydom, on Flickr Mitsubishi Pajero by dave_7, on Flickr Mitsubishi Pajero by Si 558, on Flickr Cheers all!

I've got a 3 door 2.5 td , had it 5 years .Needed a 4x4 "now!" and took a chance on it ..Would never go back to Land Rover . Heavy on diesel, towing a horsebox i doubt i do more than 15mpg , on a solo long run , its much , much better , like a car.. 30 mpg at a steady 65 70 mph .But my oil is thick ,i haven't changed it in 5 years !! It's on big tyres 31 10.5 15 . It doesn't hammer tyres like a land rover either. I paid a grand for mine and would probably get the same for it now . Try finding a rusty ,rotten 90 TD Landy for that ! 2.5 Auto box's are very slushy , the later 2.8 auto can be easily be tweaked to shift sharply . I've sung its praises and friends have bought them, but they've had nothing but trouble.. cambelts and HG .Which can happen to any motor.. I'm pretty sure mines got k seal in it too.. but its been there 5 years and doesn't use any water ! Christ knows how old my cambelt is , but i'm a chancer !! Insure on gocompare with RAC cheap as chips . Mines not rusty at all , but the rear chassis can rot . Go to Pajero forum , loads are running chip fat , I would, but its just too much hassle ! I've done loads of extreme offroad all over uk in series Landys , I'd say the Paj is just as capable , and its COMFY ..with a heater.. lecy windows..no noise ..more grunt.. Yeah , try one !!

lol at zipgun regards cam belt! I had a mk1, 2.5td which I absolutely adored. Lovely drive, not too bad on fuel, always felt very safe in it. Towed car trailer & car like it wasn't there. Love the mk2 in first pic. Makes me want another! Good solid motor, well built & easy to work on.

Cheers lads. Definitely going to look into the veg oil angle, I used to run my 306 on 100% all year but apparently the Pajero can't do more than 80%...

Another thing ,don't forget Mitsubishi gave them a 60k warranty when new, would / did Land Rover or anyone else ? I've had two Paj's , i bought one to tidy up and sell.. both have pulsating brake pedals. Probably warped discs... I live with it . The brake pedal creeps slowly to the floor under sustained pressure too, unnoticable when driving normally, as the brakes are really light . When i took it for mot i mentioned it( expecting a new master cylinder) but was told "Ah,they're all like that" .I doubt they did it when new , but its not a problem . I recently discovered there is a storage tray under the passenger seat, with all its books in it . No use though, its all in Japanese! I did find a Rolex watch reciept and warranty though ,so previously a rich Nip owned it from North Japan, coz its a winter pack twin battery Pajero .

Thanks man. Found the answer to one of my questions, Brentacre don't want any extra to insure a Pajero as opposed to a Shogun.
Does anyone know much about running veg oil in one of these?

I've got a Costco card, and 20 litres of oil is £13 just now, as opposed to about £22 for the same amount of diesel round here. Supermarkets are rarely less than £1 per litre and they come in tiny bottles that take forever to fill up with.
