I read them when I remember to check here for updates - I reckon I've probably read most of your output! In some ways, you have inspired my bike related blog, though mine's almost entirely about riding and racing and less about fixing/building the thing. fixedtting.home.blog/ I bet I have even fewer readers than you! Keep on going - if you weren't writing it up then you'd forget just how many bikes/cars you own!

I think a part of the problem may also lay with the external blog. I feel less inclined to comment here, because the content is over there. Where I can't comment/ probably wouldn't bother even if I could.
I think forums as a medium encourage participation a lot more.
I wonder if maybe your blog counts aren't accurate.
I suppose a way to test this would be to take note of the number of views on your thread when you post up a new episode, and then compare the number of views here to the number of views on your blog.
They should correlate to some degree..

Thanks for the input chaps, it's helpful to get some feedback. I see what you're saying johnthesparky, with posts on here, you almost feel compelled to read them straight away otherwise you sort of fall behind in the conversation as much as anything. I've done that myself. But with my blog or anyone elses you can read it at your leisure, pick out the ones you're interested in, and not worry about the rest, and still know whats sort of going on. Or sort of binge read when you've got the time, without being pages behind in the converstation that is going on during a particular thread. I never thought about it like that, but that does make good sense. I think you may be right in what you say varelse, forums as a medium encourage participation a lot more than personal blogs. I have also wondered if my blog counts aren't entirely accurate because when you look at the page views for the past month is says I've had 2,056 views from all over the globe! I have wondered how to get more followers from around the world, I've wondered if farcebook is actually the answer. I dunno. I was wondering duncanmartin, is the fixie you talk about in your blog the old Raleigh you were building two or three years ago? I don't remember reading the finish of it. Will there ever be pictures in your blog, or will it all be textual? Looks like you've set yourself some goals to achieve. Good, luck and I wish you well. I look forward to reading your progress.

I only access RR from my work PC and I cannot follow your blogs because for whatever reason, your site is blocked by my company filters. I lost touch with what you were up to when you got the Celeste on the road. Shame really coz I enjoyed following your expolits on here.

Yes, it's that bike. I'm in the middle of doing an entry about the bike fit, but when I get a chance, I'm going to do a full page about the bike. I should update my "readers other modifications" page about it! I've made a few changes since, (and there's a few to go), but here's a picture of it from last year: 2018-08-25_06-21-53 by duncancmartin, on Flickr

If you do ever decide to have another Mini you need to try the Cooper-S, the earlier proper supercharged one not the later turbo models. Great fun little cars, I massively regret selling mine.

I only access RR from my work PC and I cannot follow your blogs because for whatever reason, your site is blocked by my company filters. I lost touch with what you were up to when you got the Celeste on the road. Shame really coz I enjoyed following your expolits on here. Thats not so good SmokeEm, but after all you are there to work! Just wondering if you have tried it lately? I ask this because I have a friend who also couldn't read it at work early last year, but he says he can see it now. Back in June when I posted the first one on the Celeste my blog page was http:// www.motorjournal.co.uk You'll have to bear with me for a moment as I've no idea what I'm talking about, I've just copied this from t'internet... In the beginning, network administrators had to figure out how to share the information they put out on the Internet. They agreed on a procedure for exchanging information and called it HyperText Transfer Protocol (HTTP) Like my blog page. Once everyone knew how to exchange information, intercepting on the Internet was not difficult. So knowledgeable administrators agreed upon a procedure to protect the information they exchanged. The protection relies on SSL Certificate to encrypt the online data. Encryption means that the sender and recipient agree upon a "code" and translate their documents into random-looking character strings. The procedure for encrypting information and then exchanging it is called HyperText Transfer Protocol Secure (HTTPS). With HTTPS if anyone in between the sender and the recipient could open the message, they still could not understand it. Only the sender and the recipient, who know the "code," can decipher the message. I hope this makes sense to you guys, because I've got no idea. However what I can say is that around about the end of August blogger.com, where my pointless views are hosted changed, and my blog address became https:// www.motorjournal.co.uk So Hyper Text Transfer Protocol Secure (HTTPS) is the secure version of HTTP, the protocol over which data is sent between your browser and the website that you are connected to. The 'S' at the end of HTTPS stands for 'Secure'. It means all communications between your browser and the website are encrypted. Ever since then my friend says he's been able to slack off and read my blog whenever he feels the need. Hopefully you will be able to now as well!

Friggin hooked on your hot rod tale already! Really? I was wondering who was reading it as it seems to be quite unpopular... Well i'm quite surprised by that, and I feel the need to stick my tuppence-worth in! In short, your blog is very well written, i quite happily take a couple of mins to sit down and have a read (i have even read the mini bits, although I will admit I skimmed a bit as they don't interest me lol) having said that, as I have previously alluded to i am not hodrods greatest fan but i am fully enjoying the posts about yours. especally in its 'weekly episode' format I can understand the blog being a pain for smokem and other people who cant access it (thats an actual issue!) but otherwise I cannot see any probem with your blog and the way your linking it here. It is easy enough to navigate, (I'm quite cr@p at tech, its why i work in the legal profession which is stuck in 1764, and I find it fine) and I don't think its possible to get lost/have a short enough attention span not to follow the link from here. As said the articles read well, in my opinion they are the same as well written, engaging magazine articles the 'Staff Car Sagas' of PC beware lol its not difficult to comment on here about your posts, see a bookmark notification or wahatever, pop over and have a read then come back here and have a chat about it, its not like you don't join in the chat here. hey, I even commented on a blog post when you forgot to share the link here, easy! then again I do have a gob the size of the blackwall tunnel... I do agree the forum is a more social thing, RR imo is the pinacle of forums, and I wouldnt really comment on the blog (i did consider). Partly beacuse no other fekker was, and I didnt quite see how, and I prefer to comment on here. Popularity wise, FB is the ting I suppose, but as said previously cool motors are never gonna be as popular as a blog discussing the latest version of polycell smoothover branded as Olay, or whatever.. I do also doubt the its figures are accurate. fundementally however, when you didnt post any updates at all we were all eagerly awaiting them, panicing even, so we should e greatful for what we get! apologies for the rant, carry on! Additional: the small car as yet unidentified isnt a Fiesta is it? I would be furious with myself if it was and i hadnt suggested it!

the small car as yet unidentified isnt a Fiesta is it? I would be furious with myself if it was and i hadnt suggested it! Fear not, you've no need to be furious with yourself, it's not a Fiesta. Thats a car I've never been interested in, until just recently when I got passed by an immaculate mk1 XR2 (Not i!) I must admit I did look at it and think, wow, I'd love one of those! Thanks for the feeedback chaps, it all helps me to try and find a way to make it better for all of us if I know what you like, and even what you dislike. When I started my blog I had no idea that it would be awkward for some people to be able to read it, I thought it would be accessible to all, obviously not, but I guess where there's a will there's a way. the forum is a more social thing, RR imo is the pinacle of forums, and I wouldnt really comment on the blog (i did consider). Partly beacuse no other fekker was, and I didnt quite see how, and I prefer to comment on here. I've got to say that I agree that the forum is a more social thing, and I agree that RR is probably the pinnacle of forums, it's certainly the only one that I frequent lately, other forums that I used to go on I stopped bothering with because there didn't seem to be anyone out there to interact with. For the most part they'd all kind of gone dormant. I joined Rods N Sods a long time before joining up here. However I got bored of being made to feel like an idiot by a few so called know it alls. I knew I didn't know what I was talking about, thats why I was asking for advice, but all I would seem to get would be people making me out to be a dumbass (which I probably am to a lot of those people) So I gave up with Rods N Sods about a year ago, and just left the keyboard warriors who seem to infest Rods N Sods to get on with their bitchyness and in fighting. I think that HoTWire and his minions do a pretty good job of keeping this place good and enjoyable for everyone, the powers that be at R'N'S could learn a few things from this place. I must admit though I have been thinking about trying to find some other forums to join lately, just to try and spread the word a bit. I've been looking for forums like this, but in other countries so that I can reach out a bit more and grow my reader base. I've also been looking at joining some cycling forums, to try and pedal my wares there as my cycling blog is a bit of a ghost town, and I think it's main problem is the lack of advertising it. But again, I've no idea which one to join, as I'd like it to be a good one, like RR is. I guess that farcebook is also a thing as far as getting the word out, and reaching out to people. But again, its rife with bitchyness, moaning, and petty squabbling, but I may have to re-join and see who wants to be my friend! Anyway, back to the main topic of conversation, cars... And more importantly my little Hot Rod adventure. I am going to try to keep it a weekly update, until its finished. This may well mean however that I don't update on anything else from time to time, but hopefully thats ok. So here's the latest... Episode 125. Budget Hot Rod. (Part 4).
